Best finisher?

For pure footballing ability Boksic was as good as I have seen. Pace, Power, Skill - he had it all. He should have been profilic everywhere he went. Maybe his attitude didn't lend itself to being that 20-30 goal a season man.

I thought Alun Armstrong was an excellent finisher. I always fancied Fjortoft when he had a chance too.

Boksic indeed had many attributes of a fine finisher, but arguably not the most important one: the mentality.

In his case, the hunger and desire to be a great goalscorer, rather than a scorer of great goals, wasn't there. Say what you like about Shearer, but whenever he speaks, the sheer love of scoring goal shines through. That's part of what made him a great finisher, and AB lacked that.

I'd glance at his wiki page (yes, I know) which suggests he was known as a poor finisher in Italy. Maybe that just relates to his poor spell at Juve

My Dad if he was still here would say Cloughie. He struggled to decide if Brian Clough or Juninho was the best Boro player he saw.

Viduka / Boksic. They were both amazing CFs. To think we once had them is frankly mind boggling.

They could also score something out of nothing. Viduka out of the two for me. Boksic was a lazy 'play when he fancied' player.

Yakubu was also decent. Think people forget due to how things ended.

Also being nostalgic. Bernie '7' Slaven. I was around 8-9 watching Boro from the Holgate. He must have been decent with his numbers. Although only a child hood memory and 'different' football.

I'll rephrase that then great finishers shouldnt miss from the penalty spot le tissier missed one in his whole career and it was an ex boro keeper that saved it
Cristiano Ronaldo has missed 29 penalties in his career and Messi has missed 31. I guess those statistics mean they are not great finishers despite scoring over 800 career goals each?

Seem to recall there was always a suggestion with Viduka that his best form was reserved for when his contract needed renewing.

And if we're going on numbers alone, then it's about time George Camsell was mentioned...
