Bens Gibson Watching in the stands

I dont think Dysche wants him there.
If the sun shone out of his **** it wouldnt be the right kind of sunshine.

I always thought that the signing of Ben for Burnley was a strange one given that that they had a pretty sound defence. I still think that it was a signing made by Dyche as an 'assasanation attempt' on Boro and he only did it due to us robbing him & Chesterfield out of that cup final in '97, it feels like its his petty way of getting his own back on us!

🤣🤣🤣 an assassination attempt. I’ve heard it all now.

They clearly needed to expand their squad as they were going into Europe, Gibson got injured by the time he got back they were out of Europe and less opportunity to break back into the team

We can't bring him back on Premiership wages.

Offer him what Ayala was offered, but then Burnley will want a major chunk of their transfer fee back for a transfer, they might consider a loan, if we paid say £15k a week of his wages. It could suit both clubs as they get a decent chunk of his wages paid and he builds up his confidence. This assumes were are in the Championship next season. There would be no recall clause.

Another option would be to swap for Dael Fry, if Burnley are willing, but who pays the wage difference? There is also a danger Ben would go downhill as he might see the move as backwards step - I would much prefer a loan option.

You would have to seriously consider Ben Gibson's ambition if he came back to us, even in the Championship. He is good enough to play in the premier league. He was our player of the season when we were last in the premier league.

The whole thing is baffling.

I think a player can terminate his contract for just cause if he has been selected for fewer than 10% of his clubs fixtures. I don't know if being a sub counts as selected though. Of course Ben would lose the rest of his contracted wages but he should be able to pick up a new contract elsewhere. Whether what we might offer suits him I've no idea. I doubt league one is what he has in mind.

I mean, if someone like Ayala turned his back on our club there would be an outcry on here......

Gibson is paid an awful lot of money by Burnley and is under contract/
He has given them far less than Ayala gave us over the years
The guy is showing massive disrespect to Burnley

Bur, he’s one of our own eh?
No thanks

You can only give if you're picked. Only he and Burnley know what the situation is and no, I don't think he should come back.

Ben should be in the peak of his career.
Any thoughts hes going to drop into division three on a comparatively poor salary are fantacy.
We never know the whole story.
Burnley would be cutting their noses off to spite their face if they insist on getting what they paid for him.
If they make him see out his contract they will get nothing - having paid out millions for his salary and purchase fee.
Thats financial suicide for any club.

As for the Boro - we cant hope that one very loyal ex-player is going to be the answer to the complex problems at the club.
* Recruitment for several seasons has been diabolical.
* 7 senior players are all out of contract at the same time.
* We have paid out millions for average players and unproven "talent".
* We have strikers on Premiership wages who cant score.
* Our "Manager" chair seems to be vacant more times than a student flat in King Edward Square.
* Apart from the usual cashe`of raw youngsters we have a very average squad and unbalanced at that.
* Money talks and the days of big signings have gone.

Woody said yesterday that the players seemed ready for the match as they came off the training ground and commented "I didnt see that [performance] coming".

That being the case: does it suggest that the disconnect means some players are not pulling their weight?
They are just picking up the money.
They are not committed?
If so, no manager could build a cohesive team capable of challenging for the play-offs or even the wooden spoon.

With fractures and cliques in any organisation they militate against each other. No good at all.

You are overthinking it Roofie
It’s simple - the manager is just cack. He doesn’t know his asre from his elbow let alone whether the players were ready or not.
He’s that daft he might not even have picked the ones who he thought were ready ;)

Ben Gibson is not getting picked by Burnley when fit - unless its a cup match he is at his peak age. I would guess Burnley will try and sell him for £8m - £10m in the Summer, unless they sell one of their regular centre halves.

Hope springs eternal.
But you may be right.
We are in the sticky stuff:poop:

Would love to know the genuine story of what has gone on with Gibson and Burnley. It is simply unthinkable that a small club in financial terms like Burnley would spend circa £14 million on a player then just bin him off. Burnley don’t have that sort of money to waste. We certainly can’t pay a fee for him or anything other than League One wages next year as crowds drop to less than £10k in the third tier.

Whole situation is completely baffling, but it is completely disrespectful to Burnley the way he is acting too. Showing such a lack of professionalism will probably cost him a decent move next time.

Would love to have him back here, no doubt he is far better than what we have. But I cant see it, and you would have to question his ambition if he did come back.

How do we know he's showing a complete lack of professionalism? As others have said we don't know the full story.

He wasn't training with us without permission. Burnley agreed to it. That's strange but doesn't immediately suggest a lack of professionalism to me. Happy to be corrected but I don't think he's publicly criticised Dyche or Burnley. Clearly though there's been a falling out.

Not turning up for training, letting your fitness slide, going on strike, hitting the pubs and slating your employer is a massive lack of professionalism. Don't think he's done any of that?

Keeping yourself fit and continuing to make yourself available to play is anything but unprofessional. Until it's confirmed otherwise I just don't see how anyone can say it is? Strange definitely, but unprofessional? I don't think so.

Our defence has been a shambles this season, and Ayala has left, Makoudi is on loan, lots of apparent interest in Fry - we definitely need defenders this summer!
