Totally disagree with this, especially if in league one (as seems likely) I think it would be fantastic to have Gibbo leading the charge back, new manager, new captain, new eraI'll be really annoyed if we have decimated our wage budget to bring him back next season and pay all or a big chunk of his prem salary. He's simply not worth it.
Definitely see where you're coming from, we're crying out for a ramirez, even a Lee tomlin, even a fabio fabrini at this point! I just think bringing Ben Gibson back would act as a rallying point for the clubI have nothing against him as a player, but he was pretty average in his last season with us. My issue will be a totally financial one if we are paying out a lot of money for centre half, mainly because he's the chairman's nephew.
Our issues aren't defensive normally (although the two friendlies and that horror show have seen us concede 11 in three and a bit games). We are utterly woeful as an attacking force, goals scored, free kicks, corners, flair, pace, delivery, passing forwards even are all abysmal and have been for some time now.
If we have any slack in the wage budget it should be used to address this, not an expensive defender, no matter how strong his connection to the club is.
IMHO of course.
I would say we need a whole new defence and Gibson would be a good signing if the money was right. We need a leader type and he has leadership qualities.
The only question mark I have against him now is his attitude, I wouldn’t be happy as a Burnley fan if there player was training with another team and going to watch them play at the Riverside wearing boro training gear. I know it’s been agreed that he can train here but I don’t know, something doesn’t seem right about it.
Anywhere other than his hometown club would be massively frowned upon but I think there's a lot of scope for a player like Gibbo to come home, he's a good lad, good pro, not caused a fuss at Burnley, it's just not worked out for him there.Do you think a deal is already done for next season? I really can't see any other reason why Burnley would allow this? What if he gets crocked training with us? What if he catches Covid from one of our squad and then spreads it to the Burnley squad? If they are paying his salary, what is in it for them? If he isn't coming back, what is in it for us / him?
I just don't get it.
Unless Dyche hates him and doesn't want him around I suppose....
Would be unusual nowadays for no 'traffic' to come out. Dyche strikes me as a petty small man who would take umbrage with a minor infractionI wouldn’t say he hasn’t caused a fuss, clubs don’t normally get rid of players for half a season to train for another football club whilst paying them tens of thousands a week. He must of done something wrong, it can’t be just a case of a little fall out with Dyche.
I dont think Dysche wants him there.I would say we need a whole new defence and Gibson would be a good signing if the money was right. We need a leader type and he has leadership qualities.
