Benidorm Curfew/Spanish Lockdown.

"The data shows 898,822 people have lost their jobs since the start of the lockdown, including about 550,000 temporary workers. Spain's official unemployment figure rose to 3.5 million, the highest level since April 2017 "

A large percentage of temporary workers - not sure they had the same protection ?

Are they likely to be autonomos? Or people on 6 month contracts for example?

I don't think autonomos are classed as employees, so can't be made redundant - though that's possibly an accountancy "technicality".

Dona Malaguena is an autonomo and I haven't seen any sign of her sacking herself ;)

I know of a number of situations where people are autonomos but have just about one employer for the vast majority of their work. Also, there are greenhouses in our area that are always giving out limited period temporary contacts to employees (say 6 months at a time). I am not sure of the details as I am not close enough to ask people here for the nitty gritty of it. (For non-Spanish autonomos refers to the self-employed).

Dona Malaguena is a strange one, because as well as her autonomo business, she also has a 9 month contract as an employee at a local school - obviously done that way so they don't have to pay her for the long summer holiday - so she's self-employed as well as employed. All above board, managed separately, and reported by our accountant here.

Latest advice from our Junta Local....

ADVICE FROM THE JUNTA LOCAL DE ALMERIMAR - 2 April 2020

Not going outside Almerimar
For all people not working providing essential services. You cannot leave Almerimar as we are only allowed out to purchase basic necessities. All of which are available in Almerimar. Both pharmacies in Almerimar can order medication if it is not available straight away.
Use of couriers
The authorities have asked for people only to have essential items delivered for the time being. Due to all the problems the transport companies are experiencing.
So do not order any non-essential items for delivery by courier at the moment.
If you ordered some items online some time ago you can still take delivery of them. With appropriate precautions (mask, gloves and keep your 2m distance).

Here is the latest news for us. Very tight lock down. The are very few roads in and out of our town. The main one is a dual carriageway that reaches the top of a hill. Then comes down into the town.

Locked in to Almerimar

We are not to leave Almerimar unless for work, hospital appointments or force majeure (an unexpected event).

There are police at the top of the hill out if Almerimar stopping people entering or leaving Almerimar without justification.

Keep it up guys. It's good get something of a personal update from people around the world as I no longer watch the news.
