Ben Houchen linked to VAT Fraud & PD Ports issues

Fair enough then cinzano biancos ?
I am a Labour voter but even I admit Houchen has done a very good job so far.

You have to crack a few eggs to make a good “omelette”.

I can’t ever remember in my lifetime this level of investment.

It is a Teesside thing to have a chip on your shoulders and to put people down.
He has spent tens of millions of tax payers money so far to essentially bring property and businesses into public ownership (the massively loss-making airport that will collapse the minute subsidies are withdrawn). Yet people give him credit as a Tory for implementing the anit-thesis of Tory ideology. Incredible.

Well said-- he's [so far] done a great job-- very visible with his efforts.

It's a halo effect with Houchen. He's been lucky with Teesworks. Stuff like that isn't happening because of one man. It would have happened regardless of who happened to by Tees Valley Mayor.

That's because he puts absolutely everything he does on social media
I remember when working in the Civil Service 20 years ago. There was talk of a new Tees Valley organisation which would amalgamate a few other services. Each service had their own Senior Management, so it was a strategy of the organisation I worked for to have their CEO in the newspapers constantly. Keep him visible and people would know him and be more inclined to think he's doing a great job.

That certainly works for BH the budget is huge - he often makes repeat announcements and/or piggybacks. That said the area has never been in the spotlight as much as it is now and he’s arguably the key driver with that. Just hope we don’t have a bunch of white elephants dotting the Teesside landscape in years to come🤞

These days there are many many people who just don’t care where the money comes from, whether or not something makes economic or financial sense, how much debt there is, who pays for it, who is in power, or anything like that, as long as they might benefit from it and they don’t feel that they are personally paying for it.

After years and years of the Tories saying the market economy rules and there is no money for wasteful inefficient public spending, we are now in a true free for all, anything goes, economy.

You’re right, ideological politics is dead. It’s no longer about policies it’s about promises and photo opportunities.
The Labour Party needs to face this challenge head on and get a political brawler in there who connects with ordinary people. Johnson going round being jokey and the doing thumbs up isn’t connecting it’s just patronising bullshirt - but bullshirt that’s working ATM anyway.

Indeed. You only have to look at how many Jawdees wanted the Saudis to run their club as a case in point. Chelsea fawning over the Russian gangster etc etc.

Investment or government (tax) money? Tell me what Private money has come to the region?

Yes that's true unfortunately. Social media is to blame. If bh was a postie he would take a picture of every letter he delivered and stick it on Facebook and his fan boys would lap it up

If thats true, then why does it matter if Labour need to get on the bandwagon? Surely, it wouldn't matter if it were Labour, Lib-Dem or Green if its just about promises and photo's?

People on fb tonight praising bh because Austria squad landed in teesside Airport today.

Nowt to do with him
So that would be the airport he bought with £millions of previously unavailable central govt cash and has trebled the losses. That airport? Don't recall that bit in his PR reports or reported by the EG and the N Echo. The Teesside area is very poorly served by its local "news" organisations.

I don't think there is any resource these days for real investigative local journalism, which is just as the Tories want it.
