Bellingham out for England

Manager Southgate will not add to the squad for Malta's visit to Wembley on Friday and the trip to North Macedonia on Monday.

Surely JWP deserves a call up now?

He said he hates people with double-barrelled surnames because if everyone did that then we'd all have surnames that go on forever so it's just egotistical and selfish

I think you can only get 10 letters on the back of a shirt and Southgate is an absolute stickler for hyphens

Are there no left backs or central midfielders that could be called up even just to train with the first team. Maybe it’s a logistics thing but there must be some players at least worth having a look at in training.

It’s Malta and North Macedonia. Both are dead games. I couldn’t care less who plays in them to be perfectly frank and whilst it could be argued a good time to try out JWP it wouldn’t prove anything given the quality of opposition.

He has 2 goals and 10 assists in 17 games this season. 1 goal involvement every 117 minutes. Not bad for Declan Rice's replacement.
It's 2 and 5 assists in the top flight which isn't bad at all but his play away from the dead ball isn't anything above average for the Premier League, and that's the thing that too many are missing.

He'd be fine in the next two fixtures but Southgate is gradually changing the squad with an eye on the finals and there has to be some consistency within it. JWP is never going to be good enough for a permanent spot so why bring him in now?

As good as Ward-Prowse is from set pieces, he isn't nearly good enough from open play to warrant a place in the England team
Created the 7th most chances in the league last season in the worst team in the division, 7 goal contributions this season.
Out of his main competitors, one plays in the Saudi League in front of 700 fans and alongside part-time players, the other hasn’t played a full game for his club this season and barely played for the past 2 years….

Surely you can’t say he doesn’t deserve it based on his open play form when he created more chances than Maddison and Trent last season in a team that got relegated, and only one less chance created than our starting winger who was in a team that were title challengers?

To be fair, I  have seen West Ham fans saying that he's not particularly great for them in open play, they just think their other midfielders are making up for it and his set piece delivery obviously speaks for itself.

I largely only ever see him swinging in corners or scoring free kicks, because I don't watch much of West Ham outside of highlights.

But...if you take every single one of your teams corners and free kicks, you will create a lot of chances. I could be wrong but I'd guess almost all of the chances he created last season and this season were from set pieces, which just proves he's very good in dead ball situations. Which maybe isn't enough to get in the England squad.

I'd say in several key areas for the kind of midfielders Southgate wants, to enable us to play Bellingham as a no.10, Henderson and Phillips are still stronger than Ward Prowse and probably any other current English central midfielders.

The currently squad without Jude is more than capable of beating the two teams we have this week.

Don't blame Southgate for not calling up additional players.
