Behind the scenes at a Crematorium

Fascinating (if you like that kind of thing)

The kit is insane, for obvious reasons, to ensure a clean burn and none or little external smoke.

The ovens (circa £1.5m a pop) can not be opened for the coffin unless the temperature reaches 750 degrees C
Average burn takes 45 mins
Even at those high temperatures there are somethings that do not melt.. knee and hip replacements and large metal pins
A small body in a coffin takes longer than a large one (the fat renders down in a large one and effectively self cremates….)

I’ve always found what they do interesting. Death is part of life and as I’ve got older have had to deal with it more (like we all do). The Funeral Directors are always brilliant to deal with. They really do make difficult times easier.

They do
I always ask them ‘what made you want a career in the funeral industry’

I still do wonder when the say ‘I’ve always wanted to work in the industry’

....any old Acklam Base, Boynton and Hustler, St George's School alumni from the 1970s80s ?
The "cremy" at Acklam often used to spew ash over the playing fields whilst playing football.Character building!
Ironically many of my family have gone up that chimney since.

A work colleague took a mate and his dead dog to a pets’ funeral parlour. His mate after said it was a very moving ceremony. My colleague who had parked in the alley behind the shop didn’t have the heart to tell him he saw his dog being thrown into a skip out the back…

Funny story but not all that likely seeing as they're regulated & inspected.
