Bayern bid for Kane

You can't criticise a player for a lack of his team's success.

I don't really think that's the criticism.
I think the criticism is for a lack of ambition and desire to win. Yes, Spurs have been a bit of shambles at times, and he's done a lot to prop them up there despite it all. But he could have won far more if he'd moved on sooner.

Others will see this as loyalty and commitment to one club, and praise him for that. However, many measure footballing success in terms of trophies and, like Shearer, criticise being content to be a local hero at the expense of tangible success. Both will end their careers with far fewer trophies than their talent deserved

My attitude is that it's no one's business to tell another man his priorities, but others will argue sport is about winning and losing and nothing else.

If he stays in England I just can't see it being with anyone other than United. And they don't win all that much.
I do find it amazing Man Utd still haven't moved heaven and earth for him. They're desperate for a #9, and he fits the bill perfectly. I just don't understand why they haven't signed him.

They won the league cup last season and ended up in the final of the FA Cup this year and are now back in the CL. I do think with ETH in charge they're improving.

Other than Man City, who else would be likely to challenge for trophies regularly? He's not going to Man City, especially with the fact they have a better and much younger striker there....so the next best is probably Man Utd?

Liverpool won't buy him. Chelsea need a striker but I very much doubt Kane would burn his bridges with Spurs by going to another London club....Arsenal is a definite no go. Newcastle? very doubtful. That leaves Man Utd and it seems they're not that keen to stump up the cash for him.

I still think he stays in the PL for the next few seasons though.

From a purely footballing perspective I'd like to see him go abroad, but I accept he probably won't.

He will believe he could take them to the champions league. He isn’t getting a move in England this summer . If I was him would go and win a couple of bundesligas, German cups and try get his hands on champions league and then come back to prem when he’s 32 and try and break the record.
I think BM are miles away from challenging for the champions league.

He'll win the bundesliga of course, and whatever the domestic cups are over there, so it depends on how valuable he sees those trophies.

When people say this sort of thing about Shearer I always think it's worth remembering that we're talking with the benefit of hindsight.

We know now that if Man Utd won loads of trophies and Newcastle didn't. But Newcastle got really close. 2 FA Cup finals, 2nd in the league twice, the 13 point gap season... At the time Shearer signed for them he didn't know how it would work out. And just suppose it had worked out, wouldn't it have meant that much more? I bet Shearer would choose 1 cup win with Newcastle over say 10 with Man Utd. Just look at the cringe letter he wrote last month for them finishing 4th! :ROFLMAO: Maybe it'd be very different as a professional and with an entirely different lifetime of experiences but if you put my existing brain and personality inside the body of a talented footballer and gave me the option of 1 cup with Boro or several with whoever I'd of course go for our team.

Similarly for Kane with Tottenham, when he signed the last contract with them he probably did so with a very realistic hope they might win a trophy.

This is a good point but I doubt Kane ever thought they'd be in for the league title. I genuinely think Shearer signed for the Geordies thinking a title was an absolute shoo in, it was remarkable the way they threw it away in 96. It didn't feel like this season where deep down you knew Arsenal probably weren't as good as City.

Maybe but he will believe that Tuchel and himself signing and one or 2 others could propel them and they won’t be to far away maybe season after next

Can criticise his big game performances though.

Spurs are terrible for winning trophies, but he's been part of that for the best part of a decade. They've been in a few finals and what has Kane done in those big games?

Even for England, we've been in a final and semi's/quarters and whenever we've needed him, he's more often than not failed to come up with the goods. (6 yard pass to square it to Sterling v Croatia....the penalty miss v France last WC...the no show v Italy in the final).
I honestly don't get the criticism. Kane is a marvellous footballer, not just a brilliant striker.
I think he would get 40 a season for Arsenal.
If Sol Campbell could make the move...

I don't think Campbell was a boyhood Spurs fan though? He was an Iron I think.

I agree with your first point, however, he's not a clutch striker. Take Drogba for example...his record per game is nowhere near as good as Kane's. But if you're asking me to pick one to win a game and score that crucial goal...then I'm taking Drogba every single time. I could use many other alternatives to Drogba as well.

Kane is a fabulous player and will probably score the most goals in the Premier League, ever. And to do that, you have to be bloody good!

The idea that a bloke can be criticised for not moving to some state owned club that hoover's up all the trophies is daft. You aren't achieving anything by moving to Bayern or city. It's a cheat code.

Clutch? This is getting very American Marv...

BILD Sport are now reporting Kane has agreed in principle on a transfer to Bayern.

Still don't believe it to be true.

Whilst Kane has undoubtedly been paid well, he could have done with a more ruthless agent (rather than his brother). Relying on a gentleman's agreement from Levy must be up there with one of the worst pieces of negotiation I've ever seen and ended up with him missing a dream move to Man City. Not worked out badly for Haaland or City mind.

Is there not a chance that City would have still signed Haaland and Kane would have been mostly benched, and they'd have not signed Alvarez?

Good point(y)

I've also not heard Shearer say he regretted the decision even with the benefit of hindsight. If those are a man's priorities, who's to tell him different?

He clearly will regret it.

He gets mocked every single season because he won nothing after 1995.

But as a Newcastle born Newcastle fan, he clearly can't say that he wished he'd signed for Man United.

Obviously he'd rather have signed for Man United and won 12 trophies rather than sign for Newcastle and won 0.

But saying he wished he won the trophies isn't going to win him them, so he's not gaining anything by admitting it.
