Yes but the ref originally didn't give it and the mere fact that VAR told him to have another look does normally suggest the VAR official thought there was a case for one.

As we know not many VAR teams have any common sense, it certainly was not intentional just like Skippy against Ronnie but the same result due to the same reason. We haven't come on too far have we. Stupidity is killing the game.
 
In terms of the shithousery on display, I noticed that one or two Uruguay players tried to rough up the penalty spot, which was surrounded by Portuguese players to prevent it.

It's appallingly unsportsmanlike, but seemingly a common occurance now.
