Base Camp

They hsve been working on a special photo and film display before the Blackburn game linked to a Boro legend.
Also you can now drop off food for Middlesbrough Food Bank at Base Camp before the game.
I will stick all rhe details up later as there is a little graphic.

A special place that strives to engage with the community at so many different levels. It’s run by the people behind The Cornerhouse, The Arena, Middlesbrough Music Live in their good days. I picked them to work with and the space for The Ali Brownlee Social Club which has now begun pre-match gatherings.

Very family friendly, we are using their Warehouse Bar and outside Concrete Garden space so there are different vibes for different needs. Saturday we have Infant Hercules shanty singing, (free pint if you join in); table and board games and tuck shop for kids; Beer, butties and banter for grown ups n that. Adds something different to all the other great match day options in town. Open from noon. Bring something for Middlesbrough Foodbank as posted above if you can. New non match day singing and socialising sessions coming soon to reduce isolation and help people connect.

If you were to head out of station, over road to exhange square where statue of Henry Bolkow is... its just beyond - picnic tables and bunting outside. Next to Teesside Archives. Parking round the back.

Is it near B&Bs or Master's, the old night clubs round there then?
Yes - and that is probably going back 35 years, isn't it?
Next to the Archives and former Royal Exchange pub building. Behind Henry Bolckow statue.

I have just seen a test run of the visuals for Saturday - looks great. A Megga Mogga Mix

Well I thought I'd give it a try and have to say it was a total let down. This is the advert (shown above)

However there were no "Craft Pints" . The only beer thy had on draught were lager, cider and Camerons Smooth . They did have a few cans, I saw Punk IPA but not much else, but no "pints".

Also, when I got there, 12.30, I went inside and asked about the "street food" only to be told that that would be available from 3pm ...wtf ???
So much for a pre-match social.

Did I miss something ? Was I in the right place ?

Any way I had my pint of lager in the sun, entertained by some strange "Peaky Blinders meets The Cornish Fishermen" fusion and left. I can safely say I won't be hurrying back.

Hello Konrad. Thanks for your comments. I will go back to Base Camp with some of your criticism - which is justified - especially in relation to the drink and food offer. In their defence, (not an excuse), when I asked them to host the pre-match gatherings, (only one part of the Ali Brownlee Socia; Club efforts), we knew that there would be issues for the first couple of games because of pre-existing events in the venue - yesterday being a sold out music festival. It has made 'framing' the social club difficult. But that shouldn't mean some of the things you pointed out occurred - I apologise. At the same time, it was lovely seeing fans of all ages spending time together - including a number of away fans. We will learn - and get better. It is not through a lack of effort and your comments will only help us to improve. Infant Hercules were the choir - often mistaken for a bad peaky blinders stag party - but I am grateful to them for giving up their time to add a bit of quirky atmosphere to the event. Enjoy the season ahead and UTB.

Thanks for the reply and explanation Mike. It was a shame especially as it was such a nice day for sitting out in the sun. However I was in need of food and some decent beer.

Good luck with your (and their) efforts. I'll stick to Bedford/Baker Street for now but I'll keep an eye out on the progress and try it again later in the season. It would be really handy as well as I'm on the train.
