Deducted points and were not paid on time had something to do it. They were a mess at times as a club which was not BB's fault.Grant Hanley has played for Scotland over 30 times. Their standard is terrible.
Bannan was also part of a team that was relegated last season.
Completely agree with this...good postBetter player than George Saville could ever dream of being . Being good isn't all about the number of goals you score. Controls the game with his passing & always seems to have more time than anyone else on the pitch , which is the sign of a good player in my book . Agree it's too late for him in the PL , but he would be a real asset to any side in the championship. In my opinion of course .
He’s the exact type of player we don’t need. He’s well past his best. He has no residual value. He rarely scores. He’s slow.Deducted points and were not paid on time had something to do it. They were a mess at times as a club which was not BB's fault.
I agree Scotland are not a high standard but are they any worse than say Northern Ireland?
I just think there is a bit of nice quality there and a player who must be keen to move and a club that have to move him on.
He maybe 31 and he may be short - but to me he''ll definitly hurt the opposition.
Yes I liked him when we played em in NW's 1st season, we won 2-0, he was dictating the game for Sheff Weds back then, good footballerI am surprised we have not been linked with Bannan this Summer. He is too definitely too good for Division 1 and Sheff Wed must be under financial pressure to raise some cash. I suspect he's on a good wage as no clubs have made bids for him. He also mean SW may struggle to pay his wages all next season. He is always SW's best player when we play them.
Seriously?No thanks.
Think I'd have rather kept someone like Saville than sign Bannan.
He's bang average for the championship.
I don’t mean slow by pace because it’s obvious he’s not quick. I mean with recycling the ball and moving it forward. He’s slow in the build up.I'd assumed Lewis Wing would go if we signed him.
Slow? - wow - I think we watch a different game - many of his reactions/touchs are very quick. Its not just about sprinting. He played every game last season how many Boro players managed that.
31 is not young, but most on the Board want Bolasie and he's 32. Our squad overall is probably a bit younger than most teams.
Even if he managed to bag a premier league move (even Jason Steele managed a similar miracle!), he’d be lucky to start games. And if he did, then Brentford would be hurtling back towards the championship at an alarming rate."Like I said previously. He’s 31 years old. Passed his best (and his best wasn’t even that great - especially if you want to challenge for promotion). No residual value. And bottom line is, he wouldn’t improve us, so it would be a poor signing for us and a waste of good money."
I will inform the Brentford and Swansea scouting teams, as they are interested in buying him.
It’s very short sighted to judge a player on team performances. Bannan is well above “bang average” in this league. Consistently dictates games from deep and his set pieces are very good.Even if he managed to bag a premier league move (even Jason Steele managed a similar miracle!), he’d be lucky to start games. And if he did, then Brentford would be hurtling back towards the championship at an alarming rate.
Also, him being ‘linked’ to Brentford/Swansea could well be paper tosh, like a vast amount of ‘paper links’ are.
There’s no surprise he’s rarely been part of a squad that’s been fighting for promotion. I believe there’s only been one, and that was when Sheff Wed finished 4th?
If I was to give an example of a bog standard solid championship player - then Barry Bannan would be high on that list. He’s better than a team fighting for relegation in this division - but he’s not good enough to be pushing for promotion.
It looks like he could be available for around £1m, so looking at someone like Derby, they could probably do a lot worse (and they probably will ). However for us, he wouldn’t improve us so £1m plus wages at 31 years old would be a waste of money IMO.
