Barlaser

Barlasers best form has come when he has had a run of games with Hackney alongside him.

He was playing well, Hackney went down injured and it's no coincidence his form dipped.

Hackney returns and plays really well.

Barlaser/Hackney are our starting CMs - not bad to have Howson come off the bench for one of them.

The shooting conundrum......🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️
 
Think Howson/Hackney will start Tuesday. Barlaser had one of his best games for us today but still think he will go with H&H.
 
I sometimes wonder about these 'he should hit it' shouts. When he has the ball on the edge of the box it's usually from a short pass with a packed defence in front.
 
Barlaser is class.

Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to head down to James Cook. Or just stop watching football.

He was trying to settle in with very limited game time when he first arrived, and probably tried a bit too hard with some of his passes. So because he give the ball away a couple of times everytime he came on, some fans went into meltdown and instantly branded him rubbish.

Carrick looks to have found this "quarterback" type role for him which absolutely suits him down to the ground. It's probably deeper than his role at rotherham but its perfect.

He is clearly key to the way Carrick wants us to play. That's not to say that he'll play every game.
I do think there will be rotation, and the way the opposition play will be part of that.
Barlaser and Howson are the two players who can sit deep ... Hackney and Obrien will likely play a little more forward.

Anyway, fantastic to see Hackney and Barlaser passing their way around and through a premier league midfield yesterday.

Age could also be a factor impacting the regularity of Barlaser playing alongside Hackney.
Barlaser is 26, Howson is 34.
It may be that Howson may step back slightly, because Barlaser is physically going to be more able to sustain a full 90 more regularly. [Age catches up with all of us] ?
 
Great feet the other night by Barlaser. So tidy on the ball too.

Great game under some intense pressure in the centre of the park.

He is certainly winning me over after a low key introduction to the club!
 
It is almost as if our defenders and centre midfielders aren't actually crap. The way we play in the league exposes them more, give them a bit more protection like we did against Villa and they can show their quality.

Said exactly the same the other night, if we played league football even 10% more safely we could really turnover some points.
 
I think he has looked better since being moved to a deeper role. My own personal opinion for what it is worth is that he works better sat deeper looking for the long cross field defence splitting passes to the wingers etc, rather than the shorter more congested work in midfield that Howson & Hackney are more suited to. And quite how he has not tallied up a load of assists off of our set pieces is beyond me. He often delivers good balls, but we fail to score.

I think if he would have if we had more options further forward. But as we don't, I think all 3 will play and one of them will move forward.

hackney played from the left once or twice last season
he did alright iirc
