One of the things with Barcelona is that they didn’t even *need* to do this. They have a core of excellent young players in place and could’ve built around them. Aubameyang AMD Lewandowski AND Dembele? Why?

And publicly pressuring players to take pay cuts or leave the club completely is reprehensible IMO.

Not going bust but a trip into the second tier wouldn’t do them any harm. But even if they did go bust then what sympathy would anyone have with them? Their wage bill was 131% of their revenue at one point wasn’t it? It’s madness.

It explains this in the excellent Sid Lowe Guardian article linked above.

Apparently La Liga’s FFP calculations are automated, not done by vibes or whatever the hell Premier League and UEFA do.

There’s an an actual calculation of profit, loss, wage bill and accepted amounts, and if you’re over it, you literally can’t submit new player registrations or contract renewals, the computer won’t let you.

Very few know Spanish football as well as Sid, he’s the Spanish football Correspondent in world soccer, good author as well.

But Barca will never go bust or play in league 2 never going to happen.

How do you think the Premier League came about?

That was all about a few big clubs, and the rest went for it.
