Ban religion

is this the only answer..... Have a world enforcement group and drive it all underground and then hunt it to extinction? ... Radical but would it cause more issues? Is there a movie in this concept?
Religion isn’t the problem, dogmatism is. In my opinion, anyway.

Your suggestion sounds a trifle dogmatic?

The religious message, according to the records, is…

“Love thy neighbour as thyself”.

It seems it has been changed over the years.

Read the Power and the Glory, by Graham Greene.

There is an easier way education. On the whole the more educated society becomes the more secular it develops into. As individuals become more educated the realisation that organised religion is a construct to oppress them becomes more apparent. In other words its a crock of shît whatever religious flavour of indoctrination you have received.

You're absolutely right, but it's not happening quickly enough. Especially in some parts of the world.

Religion doesn't start wars, people do.

I'm an atheist, but I recognise the comfort peoples beliefs give them.

Trouble with that is the truth takes a back seat.
It's OK to teach kids the world is 6000 years old ?
The earth is flat and the sun goes round it towed by Jesus on a chariot of fire ?
The churches are entitled to be the biggest landlord in the country with tax free income at our expense ?

In some countries, it's now...

"Love thyself, shoot thy neighbour in the face with a massive assault rifle"

You’re right all the problems in the world are caused by religion. If only everyone was like them lovely peaceful atheists like Putin, Stalin, Pol Pot, Hitler, Mao Tse Tung, The Kim dynasty.

Saying let’s get rid of religion because of problems caused by a minuscule minority, is like saying let’s get rid of socialism because of the hundreds of millions of people killed by a few communist despots.

It’s also a myth that most wars are caused by religion. In the 20th century half a billion people were killed in wars, the vast majority of them- the first and second world wars, Vietnam, Korea and on and on had nothing to do with religion. Everything to do with capitalism, imperialism and stupidity.

Most problems that seem to be caused by religion are actually caused by politics and decades of immovable obstinacy. See Palestine and Ireland.

Your example Ireland has had a revolution in tolerance and a catholic detoxification brought about through education. the replublic is far far less religious than ever before they have even had a gay pm which would have been unthinkable when the Catholic church had a stranglehold over the country. My mother was irish i have relatives still over there my mams generation were 100 % indoctrinated theres no other word for it, with absolute heinous crimes commited by the church and endorsed by government for centuries until recent times. Its completely different country now with most youngsters seeing religion for what it is a complete nonsensical irrelevance. Now its influence on politics has reduced the country is far better for it. Politics and religion do not work together in civilised society.

Yep, it's all nonsense in my view, but I'm also tolerant of people who do believe, regardless of their particular faith.

I do feel that schools should teach religion, other than for a purely educational reason, which should include a broad spectrum of faith's.

I know that this is only a football message board, but if you want your views about "truth" to be taken seriously then why make such facetious comments about religion?

But that's not just caused by religion, thats the abuse of power. People with power have used it to control and subjugate those beneath them for millennia, and almost without exception always use the idea of something bigger than the individual to control the masses. Be that socialism, nationalism or religion. It's not those things themselves that are the problem, but extremism in how these things are promoted.

I'm not a big believer, increasingly I think we may be floating alone in a cold, indifferent universe but one thing I've experienced is that all the people I know with a faith are tolerant and accept others have a right to not believe, whereas people who are committed non believers always seem to come across as dogmatic and intolerant of people who don't process the evidence in the same way they do. Which is ironic because it's supposed to be the other way around isn't it?

Have we had an overtly atheist PM?
Nope.

I think it sould be marginalised as a subject for maybe 2 or 3 years at secondary only. I am happy for people to have faith but don't impose rules, or preach behaviours on others in the name of your god

Look at Ireland now.. Forward looking, multi cultural, wealthy.
Incidents like Tuam, Magladene, Kincora up north make me shudder.
When May was PM she was all for getting the Church involved more with her background, got thrown out thankfully.
