Badenoch - ‘Lunch is for wimps’

When I was younger and got into management roles at work, I’d often skip lunch and just eat at my desk. I was keen to get on etc.

Working extra as management was like an unwritten rule where it was just “expected”.

As I’ve got older and wiser I work exactly to what I’m contracted to. If I have to stay over to hit a specific deadline or stay back for a late meeting - which can happen during projects with tight deadlines etc. I always take my time back.

My boss did once pull me up on it and give me the old “its expected that you might have to work extra at times” - So I asked to direct me to the policy where it states I was expected to work for free.

Needless to say, he never came back to me. I don’t even ask these days. I just manage my own time and take it back when things are quiet.

As it should be, if a business wants to profit from your time, then they should pay for it.
