Just got round to reading the gazette article and there was glaring mistake in it,The name Ayresome Angels did not originate with Ciff Mitchell,at the first meeting of different groups of organising travel to away games on trying to discuss the possibility of a supporters group the name Ayresome Angels was suggested.The club originally was against the idea of a supporters club being organised as I believe there was bad feelings between the supporters club in the 50s and the club board

I enrolled in the Ayresome Angels in the function room on Acklam Road opposite the Coronation which was later to become Trenchers. This was long before Woodland Road, and I think my membership number was 37. I was about 16 at the time and seem to recall that might have been where I had my second pint of beer ( the first was in the station bar at Sunderland, after we had lost in a pre season friendly)
