Ayling in talks

Wonder if it’s a 1 or 2 year deal?
I imagine it will be a 1 year with maybe an option added for another. That gives him a bit more security. Also gives us a 'get out' if he's not living up to this season.

I don't see any signs of his 'legs going'. He has been bombing up and down that right flank with Jones.

He's actually 33 in August. So I'd be surprised if irs a outright 2 year. That said they will have seen enough of him and medicals to know how fit he is. Just look at Howson.

I have a feeling contract length will be more important than wages. Just for the security of what will probably be his final decent move. The issue with a one year is if he gets a smith type injury. Effectively clubless and injured going into a summer.

That said I'd be surprised if we didn't complete the deal. Ayling and Carrick were both very open in interviews. You don't usually get that from both parties.

I do think Sheff UTD would be an issue if they genuinely want him. They will almost certainly be able to offer more money. You really couldn't knock him if he chose them. I hope he doesn't though. His figures were right up with Giles interms of assists.

Do you want to play under Carrick or throw his own players under a bus Wilder?

According to a Sheffield United in the know they've baulked at his £12k a week wage demands and he'll be signing for Boro

Agent may have asked for a silly wage from Sheff Utd - recently relegated, flush with cash, parachute payments......last big pay day.

They baulked, Ayling and agent not ar*ed, signs for Boro on a reasonable wage.

We'll probably never know obviously but I wonder if Sheff United would've had to pay him a bit more than us to tempt him there?

Signs for us, he knows the manager, knows the players, loves it here, fans like him and crucially can continue to live in Knaresborough (or at least it's a shorter, less hassle commute).

It's a bit like us theoretically having to pay more to tempt players to move away from London.

Wouldn't be surprised if what we end up paying is a bit less than what he was asking from Sheff Utd.

I think from a footballing and location perspective we're a more attractive proposition and enjoying his footy is clearly a priority for him.

Yes Knaresborough. For a while I thought he had the pace of Mother Shipton but he threw off the petrification and became a baller.

Think Jones coming back has helped him no end, someone quick enough to get back and cover if he’s up the pitch and someone willing to help out and stop him being overloaded by a full back and winger attacking together. Jones has also dragged the opposition fullback out of position making space for several of Ayling crosses that have led to goals. The pair of them have been working very well together.

Middlesbrough and Sheffield United have both made their sales pitch to Luke Ayling as they bid to sign the outgoing Leeds United right-back, according to Alan Nixon.
I'm confident he's gonna sign for us, Sheffield United are in absolute dissaray, huge rebuild needed and their owner has lost interest.
He said it was close, I wouldn't be surprised if we already had the deal done we're waiting for an announcement to co announce him.

He seemed genuinely very, very happy here
