Atmosphere Today

Yeah the drumming is fantastic brings the atmosphere and the singing it's just the annoyance of the megaphone. Such a shame the North Stand sounds like a library these days. It's rhe reason why I moved to the south stand from thr North.
North Stand was surprisingly quiet, we’re normally louder than that. People seemed more interested in taking photos to share ion social media than the match. As the OP has commented, I was surprised and disappointed at how many left early. At the least stay and applaud the victory.

For a sell out I noticed loads of empty seats in the East stand, especially toward the north east, must have been 100s. Maybe people bought ages ago and then could not get due to train strikes?
There's never any trains on Boxing Day anyway, so there's always gaps whatever the official attendance is.

There were multiple 'aren't we great' threads last week about the attendance, and now people are moaning because they didn't make any noise.

The age gap in the North to South is noticeable , People around me have sat there since day 1 , so are all older types than they were 25 yrs ago , it happens, my G Kids who are 18 16 go in the South ...because its like the Holgate was to me in my youth , times change . The noisy end has moved is all , the N Stand was a beast in its day ala Eindhoven etc , now its the Souths time

Spot on. I initially choose a seat that corresponded as closely as possible to where I stood on the Holgate, think many did the same, and are now very comfortable where they are, especially as there’s room for the blanket and thermos under the seat.

It was an excellent attendance. We know we have the crowd stretch.
Compare the atmosphere to that against Forest last Boxing Day and it is night and day. There are many reasons for that.
Red Faction have been important at Boro, but they were dull yesterday.
Their preferred songs/chants are monotone repetitive drones that appeal only to themselves.
The wider crowd respond when it’s worth it.
If nobody joins in to the ultra copy rubbish then change the material surely?
The banner was excellent, they are definitely much better at banners than songs and chants.
I’m sure I will get pelters for criticising their repertoire, but my opinion.

For those saying about 'newer RF songs', to be honest most of those songs have generally been going 5/6 years, it's just not always picked up by the rest of the stand/ground. Some songs that end up being picked up massively have been sung for years before hand, it's just what ends up being 'the flavour of the month' at certain times.

The problem with just singing old traditional songs, and they do get sung a lot despite what people say, is that they normally run for about 2 verses and people stop singing them. It's a hard fight between mixing them up.

As people have said yesterday though, and probably through Carrick's time, there's not been much of a needle in games and we've basically dominated games so it's hard to get that full 'tribal' passion going.

I've often thought the bigger the crowd, the worse the atmosphere. I thought today was really similar to those away games when we get big followings - a load of people who couldn't really care less about the game/score, they're there to get smashed, or are there purely because their mates have gone. I know quite a few people who went today who have no real interest in football, but were there as part of a day on the p1ss. Obviously nothing wrong and they've put money into Boro, but those type won't contribute to an atmosphere.
Agree, too many people up and down for the toilet and pints, chatting amongst themselves about unrelated stuff, and just not generally being into it. As you say that's up to the., but it certainly dilutes the atmosphere

Big Jack’s promotion team was like that, mostly in total control on the way up and there were very few big atmospheres until we got up and went toe to toe with the elite in front of full houses at Ayresome and then the hairs on the back of your neck used to stand up.

Let‘s hope Carrick does the same.

We dont seem to have many songs about individual players anymore and the ones we do have are just copied from other players/clubs

I'll say it again if someone can rewrite cuba by the gibson brothers to make it about chuba then we're onto a winner ..

Controversial and as unpopular as it might be, I think we have two separate crowds. The Red Faction and the rest of us. The RF are very much the Boro independent fan club. No club colours / merchandise allowed - no pig bag accompaniment- very much an entity and law unto themselves. Loyal fans who travel home and away but brand RF is extremely important to them and their contributions as a band of brothers is their real motivation. It’s always a bit embarrassing when the North Stand try to introduce the ‘We’re the North Stand’ chant but because we are not at that point in the RF set they just get ignored. As soon as RF start with the ‘were the South Stand’ chant the North Stand do as they are told and contribute to the South Stands lead. RF are a bit elitist and separate for me but thank God for them or the place would be a library.

Regarding the observation that a number of people were there just for the day out. Half way through the first half, a man and his girlfriend left their seats next to us. The next time I saw them returning was half way through the second half. I asked where they had been and the reply was "we went for a drink" - that sums it up regarding part timers?

Loving the sense of superiority from those who are not 'part timers'. FFS I thought the idea was to get as many people to the games as possible, not berate those who don't or can't make it every week. But keep on with the snarky super fan mentality as I'm sure that will help the team far more than them playing in front of a full house, regardless how noisy they are.
UTB (from a part timer who lives on the other side of the world and can only get to games when I'm back in England every four or five years, if, of course, that is acceptable to all the super fans on here)

I bet you make loads of noise watching games on the telly in your living room though.

So do I.

I just sit on my hands when I come to a game. Bloody part timers eh?
