Investigation into death of a woman vaccinated with AstraZeneca in Tenerife

2021/04/06 10:12:59 Written by Canarian Weekly Tenerife

The Canaries Health authorities are investigating the death of a woman under 50 years of age in Tenerife, who has died several days after receiving her first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine. She received vaccination as a non-frontline essential worker for a charity (NGO) on the island, and had several health conditions that required medication and obesity.
The woman claimed to have had intense headaches days after receiving the vaccine, and was admitted to hospital. The case is being handled with prudence and caution, since authorities are waiting to know the results of the autopsy of the deceased, whose samples are also being studied in Madrid.
According to sources close to the Ministry of Health, a very special autopsy profile that takes up to three weeks must be done, due to the study of the venous sinuses, so samples must also be sent to the mainland. Once the study is finished, the conclusions will be sent to the international authorities and will be added to the rest of the investigations that are being carried out.

The Health Authorities ensure that there is no need to generate any type of alarm, as already in Spain two deaths have been ruled out for being caused by the effects of the AstraZeneca vaccine. First, was the death of a teacher from Marbella after receiving vaccination, but it was ruled out that the brain aneurysm she suffered was related to it, and the sudden death of a woman in Asturias who was inoculated with the first dose a week before death was not caused by an adverse reaction to the vaccine, according to the National Institute of Toxicology. In neither case were thrombi seen.
On the other hand, the admission into hospital of another 55-year-old woman in Asturias yesterday diagnosed with a cerebral venous sinus thrombosis was registered, after receiving the dose of AstraZeneca days before.

Vaccination is voluntary in Spain, but you cannot choose which vaccine you are inoculated with from the four that are currently authorized by the European Medicines Agency, i.e. Pfizer, Modena, AstraZeneca and Janssen. If you refuse to be vaccinated when it is your turn, you could re-engage when everyone else has been vaccinated, and when there is availability and with the same type of vaccine that was your turn at the beginning.
The EMA continues to insist that there is no scientific evidence linking the Astrazeneca vaccine with cases of thrombosis, and stressed that its benefits are greater than the risks it entails.

7 DEATHS AND 30 CASES OUT OF 18 MILLION:
The proportion of adverse reactions from administered vaccines is very small. The United Kingdom recognized 7 deaths and 30 cases of rare blood clots a few days ago among the more than 18.1 million vaccinated in the country at the end of March. Their regulatory agency explained that the risks associated with these clots "are very small" and that the population must continue to be vaccinated. Of the 30 cases, 22 correspond to venous cerebral thrombi and the remaining to problems related to blood clotting, with low platelets

PLATELET-LINKED DISCOVERY:
A group of German researchers discovered the link between reports of rare side effects and platelets. The very unusual combination of symptoms after vaccination resembles a rare side effect of heparin called HIT. There is a surprising combination of thrombocytopenia (low platelets) and unusual clotting in a group of patients who had developed thrombosis between 4 and 16 days after receiving the vaccine. Seven of them suffered cerebral venous thrombosis and four died.

By alerting doctors to this complication, and it is recognized early, it can be treated with immunoglobulins (nonspecific antibodies from blood donors) that help slow platelet activation. Heparin-free anticoagulants can help dissolve clots, so this Vaccine-Induced Immune Prothrombotic Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (VIPIT) should be treated similarly to HIT.
Finally, as prevention and fearing a new link with the rare blood clots that cause deaths, Germany suspended vaccination with AstraZeneca in those over 60 years of age, while Canada suspended its administration in those over 55 years of age. The Netherlands has completely suspended its use.
Undoubtedly, this lack of homogeneity in the regulation generates uncertainty among the population due to the different recommendations. AstraZeneca vaccines are being administered in 80 countries and in only one case per million vaccinated are these strange events occurring.

Any information on the incidence on younger people as this primarily appears to be associated with age and possibly gender and most of the 18.1 million vaccinated don't fall into that category?

I was not scaremongering, my wife and I have both had the vaccine and will have the 2nd one when it is our turn.
The point I was trying to make was that content in our newspapers tends to be "when will the pubs open" or "when can we go on holiday"
Whereas the newspaper article I copied (from the Canarin Weekly at that) at least seem to be trying to put some facts on the case and keep people informed.

TBF I think its understandable that people want to know when they're getting their lives back.

It's not scaremongering and should be investigated as a matter of course. It does remind me of the guy running the london marathon a few years ago who had a heart attack and died. The papers were all over it.

When analyzed it turned out that on average, if you sit 50,000 people on a sofa to watch the london marathon you would get multiple heart attacks in the 5 or so hours they were watching. Nothing to do with the guy running, but the connection is made, nevertheless.

There's been a lot of discussion on this in various news outlets over the last few days. It looks like the UK are beginning to look into this more seriously. Link

Does it really need to be investigated though if she was obese? Can it ever be proven medically that it was the vaccine, the obesity, or one of her other supposed ailments that killed her? Not withstanding the fact that very occasionally, and unfortunately, even some perfectly healthy people just drop down dead.

Things are moving quickly on this in the EU and the UK. Just announced:

“In my opinion, we can say it now, it is clear there is a link with the vaccine. But we still do not know what causes this reaction,” the EMA head of vaccines, Marco Cavaleri, told Italy’s Il Messaggero newspaper.

The official reportedly told the paper that Europe’s drug regulator would be makinga statement on the issue “in the coming hours”.

The EMA said last week it expected to issue an “updated recommendation” on the shot during a meeting of its safety committee that starts today and continues until Friday.

Germany, Italy, France, Spain and the Netherlands have all recently limited inoculation with the Anglo-Swedish company’s vaccine to older age groups pending an EMA investigation, while reports from the UK on Monday suggested Britain’s MHRA was considering a similar restriction and could make an announcement as early as Tuesday.

The MHRA’s chief executive, Dr June Raine, said no decision had been made and urged people to continue to get vaccinated.”No decision has yet been made on any regulatory action,” she said.

"Does it really need to be investigated though if she was obese?"

So its fvck the fatties then is it. Of course it needs to be investigated as all deaths that could be attributed to this vaccine, any vaccine for any other disease as well. In that way they might even save other peoples lives including god forbid the obese.

"Can it ever be proven medically that it was the vaccine, the obesity, or one of her other supposed ailments that killed her? "

Thats why they are investigating it. Then they just may know what killed her. And as for perfectly healthy people dropping down dead I would hazard a guess that is not the case. Just because they sometimes don't find a cause of it doesn't mean that something didn't trigger it.

If a number of obese people were dying from the vaccine, but as far as I can see the vast majority are not. This woman had a number of ailments according to the article, not just obesity. Does there always have to be a specific black and white reason for something?

Meanwhile in the UK the Oxford jab has already saved thousands of lives. Thousands.

Nobody is saying it hasn't. Howver these investigations occur whenever there is an adverse reaction to vaccinnes, medications etc. Just have a look at the bits of paper inside the Asprin, Paracetamol, your blood pressure tablets. They all have a list of side effects. How do you think they found out about them................guesswork.

And thats why it should be investigated. Should they find out it was because she was wearing an orange cardigan then they can stop vaccinating people with orange cardigans ;)

Well anyone wearing an orange cardigan can't complain if the cold hand of fate acts upon them before their time.

That's a joke before all hell breaks loose.:censored:

I think it is perfectly reasonable for people to post informative articles such as the OP, which discuss actual possible (if rare) side effects from the AZ vaccine. This is not scaremongering, it is a live debate taking place within the medical profession, particularly those tasked with approving vaccines.

People claiming that we shouldn’t investigate this because the patient was obese or had other medical conditions are using the same fake argument as the Covid deniers who claim that people died ‘with’ Covid rather than ‘from’ it. We need to understand as much as possible about these vaccines, including very rare side effects, so that the public can feel they are making an informed choice when their turn comes around.

That's interesting Bear. I would assume that moving forward if there is a link between, for example one medication creating an adverse effect when mixed with AZ vaccine, they just use an alternative when a person is on that medication.

One thing that I do find very interesting is a lot of the adverse reactions seem to be coming in younger folks, relatively speaking of course.

Is there any consensus on why that would be yet?

The report on the UK is for possibly not vaccinating under-30s with AZ. The Beeb have just said that that age group has very low fatalities anyway so there may be no need to add any, albeit small, risk.

My issue has never been discussing these issues it’s the bizarre way the Eu leaders has demonised the AZ but when similar events have occurred in the other vaccines esp Pfizer they are less vociferous.
