Assistant Manager

I'll tell you what he knows; how to lie, how to cheat, how to extort, how to ruin squads, how to sell players on commission, how to bore supporters to death, how to waste money and how to play for long throw ins that were only ever long with Rory Delap.
The bloke is a cûnt.
Sounds like he’d have given Boris a run for his money in an election.

It absolutely won't be the case, but Pulis would be a decent choice as an assistant.
We'd certainly concede less.

I know a lot of fans hated him, but he did okay for us and we'd never looked stronger defensively.

I'd prefer it wasn't him to avoid the controversy, but he knows the league, he knows the club and he knows.the game.
Pulis nearly finished me with football, it was a joyless experience, in fact, it was the entire opposite to what excites me about football.

He's mates with Gibson, hence his attendance so a moot point anyway.

I hope!!!

It was truely horrific football. Like watching a brand new super car being ragged all over a ploughed field!

I don’t think we’ll bother with an assistant manager.

Meulensteen is a possibility after the World Cup but I reckon the idea will just fizzle out and we’ll “go with what we’ve got”.
Maybe that’s it.. we’ve got the assistant, he’s already here.. it’s Woodgate.

I’d be fine with that tbh

Yes I was the same.

I don’t care about losing or relegation I’ve gone through them all and not once questioned why do I bother.

But when you know your team
Isn’t even trying to win a game that they are just stopping the opposition and that the game plan. To stop every other side from playing by killing their creativity.

Nope that’s not football.

I quite like stuff like that.

In an all honesty we played worse football under Woodgate and even Wilder at times. The football in Karanka’s last season (albeit the division above) is the worst I’ve ever seen at the club, in 34 years of following.

Woodgate was still finding his feet, he wasn’t blessed with the same resources as Pulis. The expectation was championship survival with Woodgate, we went though a bright patch and we could see what he was trying to achieve. Karanka wasn’t given the right tools to get the job done. Screams for 4-4-2 and playing two up top ended his tenure for me. Sure there were problems but he should have been given the chance to see the season out.

Pullis was cocky, made a big deal of how he knew his stuff, how he was a proper manager and how we’d get promoted under him. The deal was done in exchange for dire anti football, the fist ration of seeing our top attacking talents being kept under lock sland key.. then we would get promoted.

It was aweful to watch and everyone put up with it because we thought he would get us promoted. Towards the end of his tenure I didn’t want us to get into the top six.. because I’d heard there was an automatic contract extension!!

Yes, who can recall "we grieve for Tony" or words to that effect? 😮‍💨

Adama Traore the one shining light. Maybe Lewis Wing too to be fair which tells its own story.

All good points newy but I’ll respectfully disagree with some. I think we reset expectation under Woody when we realised how bad it was gonna be. At the start of the season I don’t think it was widely accepted that 21st in the league would be acceptable otherwise we wouldn’t have sacked him.

As for Karanka’s style, it’s not just about tactics and selections for me, it’s also about spirit and attitude and (without taking away anything from those first two seasons which I thoroughly enjoyed) the “style” in his final season was unprecedentedly grim in my opinion.

The line up away to Preston was when we hit peak Pulis:

.......,.............Randolph;
Fry.....Batth........Flint......Ayala......Friend;
.........Saville......Clayton.....Wing;
...................Gestede......Hugill.......

Pace, mobility, dynamism. Who needs any of that when you can pack your side full of giants. There's been shorter NBA teams than that back line.

Those poor lads in midfield never stood a chance. Bet they all had neck ache from looking up afterwards 🤣

Anyone who think Pulis football wasn't that bad should really pick a different sport.

Did you watch us at Preston only last season? Forget about the lineup on paper (there’s more to it than that), we played worse, and hence, it was worse football.
