Ashes predictions

What a great series, you never know how the chips will fall sometime but I think a 2-2 draw was probably about right given some of decisions by both Captains. I’m feeling so happy but so sad for Stuart Broad — it kind of puts everything into perspective when you see Broad bowl, experience is everything for Ashes cricket.

I don’t want to float my own boat but I thought the series would be drawn. Too bad I didn’t have a cheeky fiver on it lol 😆

It was a brilliant series. 2005 was special and this series was as well - for slightly different reasons. You could not write that script for Broads's finale. I have really enjoyed watching.

Anderson needs to retire I think, and with Broad gong that leaves England with a large hole to fill. How good was Woakes though, especially today.

Personally I think everyone is too giddy about England. England decision making and mistakes in the first 2 test ultimately cost them the chance to win it. We don’t have the urn

True, but at 2-0 down I thought that the Aussies might go on to win 4-0 or 3-1. To pull it back to 2-2 and probably would have won at Old Trafford but for the weather, it's very impressive. The Australia team are top class, lets not forget.

Because of a daft historic technicality, yeah.
It was a drawn series, Australia didn't win anything either.

England were the better team in at least 3 of the 5 tests, and would almost certainly have won the series but for rain and an outdated set of rules when it comes to dealing with the impact of it.

We don't have the urn predominantly because of 2 days of rain in Manchester after totally dominating them.

Picking Anderson is the next big factor. It's been like playing with ten men all series.
Woakes and Wood completely swung the series.

Huge chapeau to Stuart Broad - what a classy way to go. No testimonial series, just at it all series and well worth his place.
Great to see the openers settle and our Yorkshire trio score runs.

Like most I've been scratching my head at some passages, but it has been one hell of a series.
Moeen Ali has been a trooper.
JB has steadied himself, but we will need Foakes in order to prosper in India. Bairstow to bat 6. Stokes to bat 3 for me.
Pope should not come back, but sadly will.

I am so pleased for Woakes and fitting to get Man of the series.

Im sorry but you give yourself a mountain to climb by being 2-0 down.

The declaration on day 1 was a bad mistake, especially now in hindsight. Most people say before a 5 match series we’ll lose one to weather.

You could argue Manchester we declared too late.

Picking bairstow has proved a gamble that didn’t pay off over the series. He was fitter as the series went on and showed why he was picked, but he cost in the 2nd test

Agree pope shouldn’t come back.

Also agree what woakes should be player of the series. So underrated but been out best in England for some time

Anderson should have been dropped after the first test. Struggled for penetration

You can’t blame the rules when you know what they are and are set out before you play

Well, you can.

There was no physical way within the current rules of either team getting a result in the decisive fourth test, the rain ensured that.

England were dominant, England almost certainly would have won comfortably, but the current rules meant that yet another test was abandoned because of rain.

We can agree that the rules are outdated and need changing

The rules though we’re set out before a ball was bowled

I think that Duckett and Crawley will be Englands Test openers for some time after this series.
I have to admit to being wrong about Crawley. In fact astonished at his success after watching him in NZ in February. He was a walking wicket then. A great testament to McCullum and Stokes to stick with him and a testament to Zak himself for showing people like me that I was wrong when he was under tremendous pressure.

Obviously it is a shame we haven't finished with an Ashes victory outright, but I think looking back on the last 7 weeks it is a series that will go down as an all time great. The weather in Manchester disrupting what would have likely been a best ever series with an incredible conclusion.

Cricket won, test cricket won
