ASDA

I was in there very early this morning - 5am - not much Christmas cheer! A couple of the staff were complainging about being offered 40p an hour pay increase and a Terry's Chocolate Orange as a Christmas gift. All in all looks like a very unhappy bunch and who can blame them?

Googled it and found this from last month:

ASDA

The oldest continuously open ASDA is in Billingham. Apparently. You can’t prove I’ve not made this up.

Solidarity with the strikers.

The supermarket business is very cut throat, and the way they treat staff is appalling, even by UK standards. My son worked for Morrisons while studying for his degree, and some of the stories he told me would have sat nicely in a Charles Dickens story. He later worked very briefly for Sainsbury in Yarm, they treat him so bad with what turned out to be zero hour contracts that I told him to resign, even though it was against my principles. From what I understand, Aldi are a an exception with their treatment of staff, but maybe that's a myth.

It seems that way - I must admit, I was a bit surprised how angry the 2 ladies were this morning.

When I was at college, I had Saturday jobs at both Boots and M&S - back then, the staff (including me) were treated very well!!

This is a shame. I've always found the staff at that Stockton Asda to be particularly friendly.

The article suggests they were getting a £400 plus Christmas bonus. Does seem a bit odd that the are treated worse than staff at the other supermarkets - presumably it will take a few to walk before the directors level things up.

Is there still an Asda bus? Used to get that from the Coronation with my mam in the 70s (the year, not my mam).
To Portack I think.

My brother use to work at Asda Portrack....said they were a great company to work for, looked after their staff well etc. Said all that changed when Walmart took them over

It's 'Asda' s or Tesco's'😂

People always says it. 'I'm off to Tesco' s'. I always say 'how many you going too?'. I'm sure it never gets old lol.

This time of year must be brutal working for a major retail company. 1-2 days off at best. Also long hours and frankly some obscene customers to deal with. I'd last around 5 mins with my people skills.

I worked for Asda and went to Walmart HQ pre the take over. It was a cult like experience.
You are right Asda was a great place to be then.

Once the takeover was complete I cashed in and left.
