Just a question.
I cannot comment on what’s happened in the recent incident, nor would I.
I think I’ve shared the what I do for a living, but that has no bearing on the question I would ask all of you.
You approach a house, car, outbuilding, it doesn’t matter which, it makes no difference.
The person you are seeking is there, you are scared, don’t wanna be there, it’s scary.
You think the person you are looking for is armed, it’s been suggested that he/she is.
You ask him to show himself so you can make sure he isn’t, he won’t do it.
You are human, the senses are alive, you have a family and want to go home at the end of the day.
He reaches for something, you think he’s going to shoot, so rather than be plugged full of holes you shoot, you do it because you want to live.
You hit him, you regret it straight away, you didn’t want to hurt anyone. You were terrified.
You are screwed, you go home, things aren’t the same, nobody understands it.
Would you shoot, or be shot? Do you wait until you’re dead, what if he gets by you? It’s your colleagues, blokes you spend every day with.
You then get suspended from work, the things you read suggest what you did was racially motivated, despite you hating any form of prejudice, you have black friends, your favourite footballer is a black guy, the films you watch all include youre favourite actor, a black guy.
How do you feel?
