Are we just like every other club now?

Fickle!! At any other club in this league woodgate would have been sacked no doubt about that.

Fans don't sack managers (fortunately). I said that fans (football fans generally) are pretty fickle.

At the end of December/beginning of Jan, when it seemed like Woodgate had turned things around, then loads of people were praising the manager and saying how he'd proved them wrong and so on. Less than 8 weeks later everyone hates the guy.

Those results surprised me. I thought he got lucky, stumbling across players and a system due to injuries which forced his hand. With a players back, it’s as we were. Looking over our shoulder. Imagine how people will feel ‘if’ he takes us down.

I certainly didn't think he 'got lucky' at the time. Maybe with the benefit of hindsight that's what it was. I don't know.
However, funnily enough even before the home fixture I said that I thought the Spurs game had come at a really bad time. Those FA Cup games killed our momentum, and seemed to be where the tinkering started. Woodgate said at the time that a few of the players needed resting and so on.

I 100% agree that it will be a pretty toxic atmosphere towards Woodgate if he takes us down.

You are 100% right though. Literally 8 weeks ago you could hardly find anyone who wasn't on board with the 'approach' and the results were going in the right direction.

Now you can barely find a fan who wouldn't sack him tomorrow if they could. And I'm not saying we shouldn't. Football fans (not just Boro fans) are incredibly fickle.

I don’t think it’s fickle to be vocal when a management decision you knew was poor turns about to be a disaster.

I honestly have no idea what Gibson was thinking and if he is as deluded as Woodgate. It shows a staggering lack of judgement and is no way reflective of the fans knowledge or patience in this instance. We knew this would happen, are we meant to just accept, renew and keep shut??

No, saying we’re fickle (myself included) isn’t a criticism of anyone. It’s just acknowledging football fan behaviour.

I am a big defender of Gibson on here, but even I do wonder what he was smoking last Spring when he decided to run with this idea. Woodgate, in his entire career, didn’t show the slightest hint of potential managerial material imho.

I have tried to support him as I always do with managers, and been open-minded, and there was an enjoyable month in December, but by and large it’s gone exactly as we all hoped it wouldn’t, but knew it could.

Why would we be different to any other club? I'm sure to non Boro fans, we are just as irrelevant and ordinary as other clubs are to us. All clubs are unique and special to their own but to everyone else we are just another club.

Couldnt agree more, we lose & feel lower than a snakes belly
I shout about the Boro at work & I don't get it when they don't share my enthusiasm, so yes we're like any other club unique to us Boro fans

Indeed, but my point is that the things that felt special about our club could well be slipping away. There was certainly a time where we were proud of our chairman and his approach to managerial appointments/key decisions.

We always have been like the majority of clubs. Ups and downs. Love the chairman, manager etc. when things are good, not so keen when it's not.

It's less than two months since many were rejoicing about Woodgate and his brave new side.

The same as many other clubs, at times it feels special and then things change and go on a downward spiral, I can't really think of a club who this hasn't happened to, Liverpool so dominant now not won the league in 30 years, where are united, Arsenal, Chelsea, at the moment, where have Everton been for years, what about Sunderland, Coventry, Bolton, the list could go on and on, almost all fans will begin to feel that something has been lost or is slipping away once the success or expectations begin to drop, so yeah we are just like any other club.

Chairman/owner who most fans don't like/think doesn't know what he's doing.

Executive staff roundly hated.

Managerial setup given 6 months by fans, chairman repeatedly acting accordingly to try and win fans over.

'Top' players sold almost as soon as there is interest, to keep the financial wolf from the door.
Agnew thru Woodgate I would agree. Back to Boro now
