Arc Stockton - Dynamic Pricing

Just looking at upcoming gigs at The Arc and I notice that they have adopted the horrible practise of "dynamic pricing". I hate this basically the price of tickets goes up and down according to how many they have sold. I can't imagine there is much touting of tickets for events there and I bet the extra doesn't go to the artists.

For example, Limehouse Lizzy (a Thin Lizzy/Gary Moore tribute) have sold out The Forum Darlington for £18 a go, Arc has them currently at £24.50 for March next year. I hate turning ticket buying into a gamble, the thought that the person next to me paid more/less is really fkken annoying. They can fkk right off. I don't know of any other local venue doing this my only previous experience of this was Springsteen tickets and that was bad enough.

Why Arc, why?

Not sure who is doing the bookings for the Arc these days but its been pretty poor for a while. Seem to stick to their tried and tested acts in many cases. Hue & Cry must be on their 4 or 5th visit next time, Megson, Wishbone Ash, Limehouse Lizzy, China Crisis and Wildcats(although that a Christmas show). I know they are involved in Stockton Calling but their line up for next year looks pretty pedestrian at best. Thats not to say I don't like the bands listed as I do and have been to some of the shows but long for the days when they had bands like Half Man Half Biscuit and The Icicle Works for instant. Not saying bring those back as that would defeat my own argument but just have them be a bit more dynamic in their bookings rather than their pricing. Which is a load of b0ll0cks.

They have also pioneered Pay What You Decide for theatre and other performance shows - I say pioneered because it has proven so successful as a model that it has become firmly established and now adopted by other promoters in the area. For instance last night I Paid What I Decided at Arc for the brilliant Dead Cats in the Theatre.

Dynamic pricing is awful.
Hearing terrible stories of Depeche Mode fans having to stump up $5k for US shows next Spring. Ticketmaster obviously 💩

They've been doing it for a while now.

It's becoming more and more the norm in the bigger venues and anywhere SEE Tickets and Ticketmaster think they can get away with it. Awful practice I agree.

And Arthur is right, who ever books the bands for the Arc should have white stripes down their back as they are so middle of the road.

Oi, I'm off to see China Crisis there next week. Fine music, comedy and left wing politics all in one night. Tremendous stuff 🤣

Must admit it's not great, although I have been the beneficiary of this policy in the past for Nick Cave in Sheffield.

Didn't purchase on the day of sale due to poor seats being available (versus cost). Picked one up the day before for less than half the initial cost.

I guess it makes you think differently about which gigs are "must sees" It doesn't bother me that some may pay less on the night as you weigh up how much you personally want to go.
