Apathy or Anger

Apathy. Been supporting Boro since the early 80's, and this feels like the 82/83 season all over again in terms of quality (or lack of). We are a very poor side. The worst for 40 years imo. At least the team that went down to division 3 in 85/86 had some bottle and fought until the end. These current lot won't.

To be honest I'm not as interested as I used to be, both in boro and football in general.

The money, the corruption and the hyoe have killed it for me generally and Pulis sickened me off to the point I lost a lot of interest, some of which I never got back.

Maybe it's self preservation, but the more invested you get, the more you get let down 🤷‍♂️

really is no point getting angry, it won't achieve anything and you are the one only who will suffer, and probably your mrs aswell, although having invested a lot of thought and emotion into this entity of MFC over decades it's difficult not to. So, at this kind of stage of sustained failure it calls for a rational mind. Apathy is a sensible mind's response to conditions beyond our control, it doesn't mean you don't care, you do, but for the time being those emotions have to be buried for your peace of mind, and carefully resurrected when conditions improve. Supporting the Boro calls for wise self regulation of your psychological state. Time to be philosophical and ride this tsunami of disappointment. It ebbs and flows. That's my view.

Apathy, I wasn’t even bothered enough to follow the game yesterday. Have tickets for Wigan but not going to bother either, not worth wasting a days holiday just to end up ***ed off again.

I can deal with the team being ****, have plenty of experience with that over the years and it doesn’t bother me, but I can’t accept being **** due to an owner constantly making the same mistakes with no interest at all in improving how things are run, only in October and it feels like nothing is even riding on these games anymore. If the owners can’t be bothered then how will the fans ever be

Gibson’s reputation is on the line now. He’s lived on the brilliant achievement of reaching a European final and other past glories for last (mainly poor) 16 years. Patience is wearing thin with him for most fans now I would say. If the new manager announcement is Cattermole, or some other internal type combo then that patience is going to snap, and the Stevie Gibson is king songs will change to something much less complimentary - surely he wouldn’t be that stupid would he ?

Look at some of the posts on here some will defend him no matter what.

It doesn’t really matter if we want him here or not in reality. The way he has the clubs finances makes it impossible for anyone else to buy the club so we are stuck with him for a long time yet

Apathy for me. I could quite easily not even have gone to that game yesterday as you pretty much knew what was coming. :-(

Have to agree with Gazboro. Reminds me of that 82/83 season. Serious lack of quality and i do fear for the future. I’ve said it before Eindhoven was a watershed moment. Gibson left his heart there and I think the lack of action proves this.

Apathy but it’s an age thing.
Pretty sure I’d have been angry at that performance 20-25 years ago and spitting feathers on the long way home.

The definition is:
lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern.
Is that not what the players and management seem to be displaying?

I genuinely enjoy watching my local non league team more at the minute and Kevin Phillips is their manager ffs

Agree with most, age tends to mellow you, life has different priorities.
Football like so many things had been ruined by money and greed.
I have no time for players earning a fortune and not trying, most people would give an arm and a leg to be in such a privileged position.
Players that simply don't do their job want booted out ASAP

There are things in the world that make me feel angry sometimes but the performance of my football team isn’t one of them. I feel a bit dejected about them at the moment, but there are bigger things to feel angry about.

Still love football, still love the Boro.

Apathy.

And while it is bad at the moment, think back to the dire days of Mr Strachan and ask yourself how many people would have predicted Premier League games within a few years of that footballing quagmire.

I accept that we will always lose out in the transfers for young men in their early 20s when a club closer to London is in the hunt. I accept that only 3 clubs can make it out of this league per season.

But for FFS, stop projecting the image of a forward thinking, dynamic 'project' when we can't assemble a squad capable of playing to Plan A, let alone devising a Plan B in case the opposition might have done any research whatsoever on us.

Which camp are you in, at least anger shows you are still emotionally invested, whereas apathy is the state beyond anger, where people are just going through the motions. Do you think the atmosphere at games will turn toxic, with in fighting in the stands or are we way beyond that point, and people will just stop going and find another interest on a Saturday, which is a much more dangerous situation?
At my age I only have enough energy to be angry at a few things - yesterday was anger focused on the Tories and the entitled ***** spilling milk in a supermarket in Edinburgh.

Towards the Boro - just apathy, the result & that first half performance left the rest of the day flat mind cant get away from that.

I’m not sure if over exposure to football on tv etc these days has made fans (not just ours) think their club should be playing swashbuckling attacking football.

The disrespect to people like Dyche who have achieved far more than any of our managers in recent years is bizarre.

When has that ever brought us success? We need to get back to basics and stay in this league. The football hasn’t even been attacking or good to watch for weeks now.

I don’t give a monkeys if we are playing direct or defensive football if it is making us a winning team.

Definitely in the apathy camp abc agree age definitely plays a part.

50 + years of attending and nearly 40 years of being a season ticket holder I’ve been less enthusiastic in the last few years and keep saying I’m not renewing but was persuaded by Wilder that this year was going to be a good one.

I think this will be my last season.
