Anyone watching the Gregg Wallace thing on channel 4

I thought it must be a wind up...just hi-lighting the cost of living etc but there was no disclaimer at the end! It must be a wind up...under 7's taste the best??

It’s a mockumentary apparently. Don’t really understand the point. It’s not funny. It’s clearly made up. Don’t get it.

Eat your kids WTF…. Surely a wind up

It was pretty good tbf
It drew us in quite nicely before getting more surreal.

My partner and I were watching it together and it was a kind of ’who challenges this as nonsense’ first moment.

I thought it was a very clever satire. It was so similar to his real shows that it wasn't too hard to suspend disbelief at times, despite the subject matter. There are some good points made in it about exploitation of deprived families, too. Unsurprisingly there's a media outcry about it - very similar to the Brass Eye special years ago - which means that the actual points it makes end up being overlooked.

Just wondering about the choice of host - clearly deliberate.
Maybe hoping it would attract ‘Greg fans’ who may not have been up for this kind of shock treatment
Or, wanted it to go under the radar

I wouldn’t put it past Michele roux to have eaten human meat. theres an underlying something about roux it wouldn't surprise me if he was serial killer

Surprisingly, I haven't seen anything from the RWNJs saying this would be a good alternative to food-banks.

Not yet, anyway.

“ A Modest Proposal For preventing the Children of Poor People From being a Burthen to Their Parents or Country”
This was a pamphlet written anonymously by the satirist, Jonathan Swift in 1729. In answer to the problems of the Irish during the famine..
Satire is ‘shocking’ it’s supposed to be. It obviously works because it’s been used for, at least, a couple of thousand years. The ancient Greeks were pretty good at it….and the Romans nicked the idea like everything else from the Greeks.
