Anyone seen Oppenheimer yet?

I deliberately don't read reviews and never watch trailers (with some you've virtually seen the whole film) so had no expectations, although I've seen many of Nolan's films. I had a vague notion of the history, but knew nothing of Oppenheimer's personal life. I really dislike films full of staged action sequences and special effects, so I really enjoyed this. It made you think.

Thought it was great - didn't feel like 3 hours to be honest. The jumping timelines kept you thinking and piecing things together.

Think Christopher Nolan is a bit of an acquired taste though, if you like the style it's easy to get on board. See also Wes Anderson.

I saw Anderson's latest, Asteroid City, a few days before Oppenheimer. As with many of his films it was visually superb, but devoid of heart - and it really was difficult to know exactly what the hell it was about.

I enjoyed it enormously. The cast he has put together is extraordinary and they all act their socks off. Possibly Gary Oldman is the biggest surprise. Cillian Murphy is barely off screen and always watchable. Fortunately I went to see "Barbie" the next day so the week finished with a smile. Well, with that and Richard Feynman always playing the bongos.

David Baddiel has criticised the director for casting a non-Jew into the lead role.

Isn’t it called acting for a reason?

What next, only true serial killers can play those roles?
Hope there’s loads of roles for boring middle aged Middlesbrough supporters with no particular skills or personality. Otherwise my acting career is screwed 😂

Saw it the cinema last week, ridiculous sound affects. The sudden surge in sound is overused as is often the case these days. Apart from that it's not a bad yarn but way off the heights of cinema from the past. Obviously I'm an oldie.

Wasn't quite what I expected with all the politics, the acting was great, especially Robert Downey Junior. It's one of those films that's well done but I'm very unlikely to ever watch it again, 6/10 for me.

I thought it was a 6/10.

The jumping of timelines threw me the first half hour and I thought the atomic bomb scene was pretty underwhelming. I thought they might of even shown it being dropped in Japan.

Cillian Murphy made it though 😁👍🏻

Nolan is no fan of CGI, and I'm with him on that. Barbie was also made without CGI and using 'old-fashioned' techniques. Ray Harryhausen was the master when I was a kid, so you can see why modern special effects leave me cold.

I suppose it doesn't happen the other way around though does it? I guess a Jewish actor mainly relies on roles as Jewish characters
