Anyone own or owned a Flying V?

Really interesting. I would love to try one out. I remember Musicground in Doncaster used to keep that kind of thing in stock when they were around - I miss that place. Loads of vintage electrics. Not sure where I'd go, to see that kind of range, now - York possibly. No one carries that level of stock now.
Denmark St in London is the place to find vintage stuff.....but uber pricy

Never had the patience to learn guitar but for aesthetic reasons alone I 've always been drawn to the Rickenbacker...

I think it the lines through the cutaway where the neck joins the body.
I see the attaction.

In all honesty the necks on Rickys are fabulous, but I can't get away with the tone.

Me too. They’re not my thing.

And just to add, as an owner, I don’t know why anyone would want to sit down playing a V. 😎

I have pressed my face against the windows there - never been in, though (usually have Mrs H in tow, when in town)
Last time I was down there, I was looking at a Smiths guitar book as Johnny Marr walked in to buy a cable......I froze, then quickly put the tab book back before he saw it and embarrassed me.

I’ve mentioned on here before but Jimmy Page once heard me playing Stairway to Heaven through my open bedroom window. Surreal.

That's a cracking guitar to have had at 14 (y)
Yeah, I was very spoiled on that occasion, by my Mother for Christmas. I almost feel bad today still that she got it for me because we were a big family and my Mother raised us on her own. Spoiled little bstrd. But I was considered 'talented' so got what I thought I needed at the time ha ha.

I remember when you used to get all the catalogues from the different guitar builders stacked on Tony's desk at Boro Music (Bargeenz!!) and I had the Jackson one, I remember obsessing over it for a long time and almost went for the famous white Dinky (wish I wish I did and kept it, now!) with the maple neck and black Sharkfin inlays ... not a metal guitar player nowadays but back then that is all I liked(obviously), a little 'mosher' haha so the RR V it had to be. I triple-picked and divebombed the sh1te out of it.

Remember as I got older and was in bands, I would sometimes get it out live for a bit of a joke ... can't even remember where it ended up now, which is a shame.

I bought a Jackson Surfcaster in Blonde, a few years ago. No one really liked them I remember, back then. I had always liked the design, it really is one I had wanted for a long time as they're hard to find. Particularly the US Charvel design ones.

Unfortunately, they came with ugly, pearl design scratchplates so I had a guy called Jack, some guitar tech from Manchester cut me a new black one, and it was absolutely spot on. Fit just right and looked mint. Stuck another humbucker in too as the stock one was rubbish but it ended up sounding quality. Lovely maple neck on it with black inlays like a white Dinky

Christ, as soon as guitars come up I could write all year if I spoke about all the axes I've spanked

Fun

I always play standing up too. I mean, I might get a call one day, to dep for someone, and I'd hate to have to play with the guitar strapped up to my chin to play naturally.

(I'm probably not going to get that call though, am I?)

I play acoustic standing up usually now too. Same reason. Preparedness to play in public - which I rarely do now. Last time was the Station in Stokesley!

I didn't, and would never, do that though. (Diss EVH).

I did diss a procession of teenagers interfering with a keyboard, that they couldn't afford, while smothering the Jump riff, though. Guilty as charged.

Used to have a good roam around their shops when I lived down there for a bit .. is it Wunjo or something, the name of one of the stores?? Can't remember exactly now but something odd anyway ..

One time they had this beautiful Godin in stock that I had been eyeballing every time I had been in ... couldn't resist temptation in the end. It is the flattest fretboard I've ever felt, they're very popular with jazz players and all that.

I remember I called them and asked them to hold it for me .. flew down there on the tube, etc and when I got in there, a customer was having a good go of it through an amp and about to buy it

I remember the look of disappointment on his face when one of the fellas working there took it out of his hands and said it had been reserved. .. I felt like a total bstard .. the lad was clearly gutted

ha ha

Yeah Wunjo is still there, but they had two premises for a while and then shut the original one down. Bought my GF a Simon & Patrick acoustic a couple of years ago from there. I love a browse around the shops there, some absolutely stunning guitars, and real antiques. The street used to be the centre of London music in the 60s apparently. All the musos went there for guitars, there were some recording spaces above/below/behind shops and some labels and producers had offices there.

Amazing. I have to be honest it’s a little intimidating in a way, another reason for not going inside, because in all likelihood I’d suspect that I was the worst guitarist in the shop 🙈🤣

That’s often my fear on Denmark Street.
