Anyone know where Mark Drury was

The only thing I have a real problem with is that he seems to get just as excited about opposition attacks/goals as he does with ours. I know Ali is an impossible act to follow but he barely raised his voice when the opposing team scored. It can also be very misleading if you're not paying full attention to the commentary at the time.

That’s my issue as well “far to neutral” as you say a few times I’ve wandered off into the kitchen mid commentary to hear him yell so I rush in shout get in only to hear we are errr losing.

ha yes Ali it was almost disdain when they scored oh no no and it’s in etc it was like a personal affront - god we miss him.

The other problem is that Drury rarely keeps up with play. He's waffling on about his underpants or something ridiculous and the next thing he's shouting the goalscorers name. There is no real commentary describing what is happening on the field of play. Maddo is not much better. They could both do with being axed.

I like maddo genuinely loves the club and I love his get in there shouts. I’m happy with an ex pro that loves the team over a clipped pr suit that could careless.

Agreed, he just needs a better commentator to bounce off. Sometimes he genuinely sounds like he wants to give Drury a slap.

He works for the club and is therefore biased. Take the constant sniping at keepers who are not Aynsley Pears for example, and his long refusal to criticise Woodgate.

I don't think anyone doing Maddison's job would have been wise/able to criticise the manager, to be fair.

Brownlee was a character, and obviously hugely biased (a good thing) however he also clearly knew his football, and was a brilliant commentator in terms building up a picture of what was actually happening. Drury was obviously never going to hit those heights, and it's unfair to expect it, but the other lad is a far better commentator. Mark Drury would do well to follow his example and concentrate on describing the action rather than any other anecdotes.

But then commentators just end up being a bit sterile.
I like that Mark Drury has his own personality. I also happen to think he is a good commentator.

I've got no issue with his pre-match and post-match commentary, but he's very poor during the game itself.

I'm sort of used to Drury now. He's OK. Yes he does drift "off-topic" occasionally but given the dross in front of him I find it hard to blame him! And I think he is better at commentating "the other club" scoring than he was at the start, I don't find myself thinking we've scored when we have conceded (which was definitely the case when he first started).

There were several voices on the old board who didn't like Ali's commentary. I don't think people appreciated how good he was until we lost him. He was a special part of the club and when other fans heard his commentary they knew that his was a fan's commentary for the fans. Never forgotten.
