Anyone having haggis tonight?

I would but I doubt I could get our lass to eat the rest, and I don't know enough about what goes in it where I could share it with the dogs.

Thought about it ( as I grew up for 4 yeras in Ayr near Troon and have Scottish relatives ) but just down to me only in the house now (the cats wouldn't touch it ) and could not justify even small portion ( would do 3 meals) . So , instead have honey smoked Salmon flakes and mushroom pate on crispy wheatbread ( this is informal starters ) some tesco special reserve whiskey and some liver n bacon n tatties for later . All going well

I was watching Breakfast TV on BBC this morning and they had a piper piping the haggis in, followed by a chef carrying the haggis and a Scottish dancer.

They interviewed the female piper and asked her what she liked about Burns night - I like to have a party, the food and drink with friends, whisky and made it clear it was just an excuse for a drink.

They move on to the chef and he's got a broad English accent. The female interviewer says 'You are originally from Scotland?' No, the chef replies. 'You are of Scottish decent'? No, came the reply again. He explains what's in the haggis and they quickly move on wanting to get the true feeling of a Scottish Burns Night.

The interviewer asks the dancer what she likes most about Burns Night. I like the pudding. The interviewer thinks she is going to get somewhere with this conversation and asks her what is the pudding 'Deep fried Mars Bar' comes the reply. Somehow I can't imagine Burns having that says the interviewer. 🤣 🤣 🤣

Whoever booked this trio are now looking for a new job. 🤣🤣🤣

Thai tonight, don’t think they do veggie haggis 🤷‍♂️
On the contrary. My wife is having McSween's Vegetarian Haggis (available at Waitrose) which she absolutely loves. Not that we're doing Burns Night - I was unaware it was. It's just her preferred alternative when the rest of the house has a roast.

We often have meat + veggie haggis anyway - again McSweens regular is the best I've found - only £3 at Sainsburys. With tattie and neep mash with lots of pepper and a hint of nutmeg, cabbage, and Aldi instant onion gravy - (of its kind) rather good!

If there is any food item ever that is beyond vegetarian faking/copying /representation it has to be the haggis. I don't see the point. Why not just have a good ordinary vegi meal and partake of the whisky and pudding.

"Haggis is a savoury pudding containing sheep's pluck ( heart , lungs liver), minced with onion, oatmeal, suet, spices, and salt, mixed with stock, and cooked while traditionally encased in the animal's stomach" - I mean , why bother vegetarianising this)

Haggis imports into the United States were prohibited in 1971 as part of a ban on the consumption of all livestock lungs. Authentic versions of old school haggis remain culinary contraband in the US, as hard to lay your hands on as a Cuban cigar.
