Anybody wishing the season had been cancelled?

Well, it's just an opinion but the break allowed teams to re-group and start afresh - If the break hadn't have happened, momentum would have made changes in form more difficult
True, but I can't see how just cancelling the final 9 games of the season would have made it *more* fair. That would have put other teams at a huge advantage too.

100%, hardly seen a decent game since it came back, utterly boring matches. And the fact that going down seems increasingly likely makes it even worse.

It shouldn't have continued, as much as I enjoy watching football. And my opinion isn't Boro-specific.

It isn't a level playing field. The end of the season is completely different to the rest of the season in how the games are played, how home advantage works, the drinks break, 5 subs etc. The stupid contract decisions that have been forced upon us is an obvious issue. Wigan probably would have stayed up comfortably and have now gone into administration.

But all of that's irrelevant, it shouldn't have continued because it sends the message to the rest of the country that we are back to normal and you can forget about the virus now. The only reason that we are playing now is because of money, nothing else.

That's surely the same for every team though? I see what you mean to some extent if times had momentum going into the break.

Certain teams with nothing to play for, possibly also because of players contracts, have been totally useless and rolled over.

It is the same for everyone in terms of fitness etc but the context of the season has definately changed for some clubs.

While I think the season needed to be concluded at some point, (for the sake of fairness to teams involved in changing divisions), I agree with the above. In terms of public messaging, it shouldn’t have restarted when it did.

I wonder why Div 2 and 3 was deemed different?

I couldn't care less about Browne, Bola and Dijksteel, or Meijas.
But I just cant wait to see the back of Assombolonga, Fletcher, Saville, McNair, Johnson. £36m on utter tripe.
Get whatever fees we can, **** them off.
Don't resign Shotton, Friend or Clayton.
Take a fee for Wing. Don't bring any of the loan players back (except Roberts).
The club needs to continue clearing out these useless wasters.

The club is where it is because it deserves to be and that definitely includes the players.
When will people just stop saying "there's a player in there"?
There isn't with anybody named above, bar Roberts and he isn't ours. They are not going to get better.
They don't need an arm round them, they need to man up.

Whoever is manager next season and whatever the league we are in, we will fare much better without this lot.
We have Coulson, Spence and Pears who could develop into very good players. I still think Fry and Tavernier have capability. The recruitment has to be transformed, as the same people will bring in the same utter rubbish.

In terms of our position in the league there was zero advantage to restarting. I suspect however that we would still have JW in charge over the summer and into the start of next season, and the club would've convinced themselves that the project was moving in the right direction. Probably resulting in a relegation battle next season anyway.

You do realise that a club can also bring players in?

Well if you are going to sell/ditch 9 first team regulars, as you suggest, and those players that we can sell are all so terrible, we won’t get much money to spend from their sales. Plus we would appear to be skint and will be buying bargain basement lower league players to replace them with, the likes of which don’t impress you.
But yeah, I do realise we can bring players in. Bringing in pretty much a whole first team squad though, on a tiny budget, to mix with a few youngsters and league one flops? No ta.

Whilst I agree with much of this, we wouldn't have a tiny budget because you would assume that someone would pay fees for the likes of McNair, Britt, Saville etc and a decent manager would be able to wheel and deal on the back of any monies brought in. Step forward Sir Neil of Warnock!

Well we won't know until this is concluded but the ideal scenario would be staying up (obvious), NW given a clear run at next season and players that he actually wants.

I'm confused. The league restarted exactly the same as is. So the teams that have nothing to play for had nothing to play for even if the season hadn't paused.

Saville, McNair, Assombolonga, Fletcher and Wing would all attract fees.
So I'm suggesting we could recruit better than Johnson, Shotton, Clayton, Friend, Gestede for their wages and better than the 5 sold for their combined wages/fees.
The loans will cycle round in any case.

The budget size will be what it is in any case. If you keep/renew the 10 above your budget would be shot in any case. Assombolonga's wage alone would pay for 2-3 better players.
I'd like to see Coulson, Spence, Fry, Tavernier, Howson and one of the keepers as parts of the team and I'd love Roberts to come back on loan. The right recruits then would see us well and better than sticking with this shower.
