Anybody fancy Sunderland to go up via the playoffs?

Its fun to watch the mackem meltdown everytime they fail to beat a 3rd division club.

We have our moments here when we lose, but nothing beats those up the road for the hatred of their own team, manager, and owners when they lose, or even draw.

One of the funniest ever threads on there was during Boro's game against Steua back in 2006. I remember reading it after the match. The absolute glee they had at us going 0-3 down, pages and pages of insults and vile jibes. Bye bye Boro's. They were giving it both barrels. Only for the thread to turn to comedy gold of despair and envy when Boro began clawing their way back. The meltdown when we reached the Euro final was funny as ****.

But they don't care about us
Ahah class 😁

There could be quite a collection of clubs with PL pedigree in L1 next season.

Derby, Wednesday, Ipswich, Pompey, Bolton and Charlton have all played the big clubs often enough to regard Sunderland as nothing special.

Whether they go up or not, mostly they are definitely not bothered about the non-derby that is playing us. Never see Boro as a rival, small town in Yorkshire, don't care, just another game blah blah.

When I've been to Sunderland to see the mighty Boro, which is quite a lot, they constantly sing, we hate Boro, we hate Boro, which is fine by me, but if they dont see us as anything but another team then it shows how angry bunch of fans they are if they sing the same song to whoever they play, we hate Bristol City, Bournemouth, Cardiff, etc, etc, strange breed of fans ;)

They always say our game against them is just another game to them, but whenever I've been to both home and away games, their fans definitely react more so when playing us compared to say when they face a London club.

Obviously Newcastle is their main derby, but they are kidding themselves if they think the tees/wear derby is just another ordinary game.

To be honest, I fail to feel much sense of rivalry with Sunderland.

In my 30+ years following Boro, we've beaten them twice as often as they've beaten us. We'd probably claim we didn't care if we got beaten so often too.

Truth is, they've been our bunnies, so it's hard to feel any real animosity towards them.

Their biggest issue - and greatest irony- is they spend far more time talking about us than we do about them! Any thread on Boro yields page after page of posts. It certainly appears they are looking for self assurance in their belief we aren’t rivals and games against us aren’t classed as a Derby.

The general mood on here is think what you want- we couldn’t give a monkeys! So let them continue to go to great lengths to state we are not a Derby game - even though their fathers and grandfathers would be likely to disagree!

The comment by Vauxie, asking whether Liverpool or Everton vs Tranmere is a derby sums up the arrogance of some of their fans. Deluded.

Losing again.

If this form continues, and the teams around them win their games in hand, there's a real chance that they could miss out on the play-offs entirely.

They dislike Coventry for the simple reason back in 1976 Coventry & Bristol City, after hearing Sunderland had lost 2-0 at Everton in their final fixture of the season & all they needed to do was play out for a draw, resulting in either team going over the half way line, the game finished 0-0

Sunderland were relegated, not because of either of those two team but because they deserved to be relegated, its over 42 games not one
I was at that match (I seem to keep doing this to games Erimus remembers!;)). Working down in Gloucestershire (it was actually 1977), one of my flatmates was a Bristol City fan and another mate, a Brentford fan, was the more important because he had a car...so all three of us went to Highfield Road. It had to end in a draw and Sunderland lose for both of Coventry and BC to stay up. Coventry went 2-0 up, which would have relegated Bristol City and even worse, kept our Mackem chums up. Bristol City pulled it back to 2-2 in the second half and as it was allegedly still 0-0 for the Mackems at Goodison, Coventry were heading for the drop. (Younger readers please note-in this antediluvian pre-internet/mobile phone age, you had to rely on someone in the crowd with a radio for score updates. And when other scores really mattered, false rumours used to abound, but that's another tale). Oh yes, and the Coventry match had kicked off late due to crowd congestion at a time when games never ever kicked off late for crowd congestion. Jimmy Hill, RIP, you rascal! As both sets of fans at Highfield Road sweated for different reasons, the scoreboard announced the final score from Goodison. " Everton 1 Sunderland 0". Cue pandemonium on the terraces with Sky Blues and Robins fans hugging each other. I felt quiet happy as well. On the pitch....as Erimus described, the strangest last five minutes I've ever seen with both teams time wasting. Final whistle, celebrations all round, on the pitch and on the terraces, both sets of players and fans embracing. And then on the scoreboard, one word..... "CORRECTION" ....Pin drop or what! Complete silence. Thousands of held breaths. Again, never experienced anything like it in a packed football ground, with the players still on the pitch.......Seemed like an age, then the correction came up..............................
"Everton 2 Sunderland 0" .......... I reckon they heard the cheer in Goodison. Think Maccarone scoring v Steua to get the flavour. Coventry and Bristol City fans all left as best pals. And we had a celebratory drink or two on the way home to toast Bristol City's survival. OK, I'm fibbing, I was buzzing about the Mackems' fate.:ROFLMAO:. Happy Days!

Sunderland hitting the right form just at the correct time. Hope you enjoy another season down there.

Crewe equalise against Charlton too, booo.

Hopefully a semi-final failure is still coming for Sunderland.
