Any teachers on here? Because this is outrageous

Yeah, doesn't surprise me. HR departments routinely assess candidates via social media these days and no doubt they run the rule over troublesome employees in the same way. I don't air direct criticism of my college because I assume it will be picked up by someone. The Government, the DfE, OFSTED, that's a different matter. It's my right as a citizen to comment on matters of public policy and I'd love to see them try and take me down. I'm fully unioned up and they'd be in for a fight.

Thanks for the tip. Trug. Will pass it on.

I work in education and there is little love for the current government. I very much doubt this would stop you getting a job. I would also imagine your social media would be locked down so potential employers couldn’t see anything in the same way students/parents can’t find you.

I could never understand anyone involved in education having a Facebook account, it tends to leave you vulnerable to the comments of others.

I've had a few students ask me why I don't have a Facebook account and they had obviously been searching for staff.

Thank goodness this current government delivers on all of their excellent policies and is absolutely superb with an amazing track record of success, honesty, integrity and care. Otherwise I might be in trouble.

Anyone who doesn't think their employer reviews social media posts by employees about the business and keeps a record is living in cloud cuckoo land. I know mine do. Only difference here is that the government are the employer

This doesn't surprise me. The DfE and its Ofsted cronies has long been a educational dictatorship using surveillance to exercise its power and control. Our educational system is very controlling and backward for a so-called advanced democratic state. The centralization of power and control over the educational system is akin to a fascist state, aided by surveillance through technology and corporate (MAT) organisations. The schools get bigger, technological surveillance more advanced, the power more centralized, so we end up in this situation. Technology and those who control it now control teaching and learning. I know this because I work in schools and see it happening.

This could backfire on them. It's time for all education workers to put in Subject Access Requests. If we overwhelm them with mindless data processing tasks then they might gain some appreciation of how the rest of us feel.
