Picking up an electric drum kit today... Can anyone recommend some good youtube lessons or advice for a beginner?

Can't wait to get started!

I started learning at school so picked up the basics that way but really nothing better than playing along to your favourite songs (I was a huge Roger Taylor fan in my youth!). Counting and coordination are probably the biggest skills required.

I've never really used youtube, unless for inspiration. This normally does the trick...

Enjoy!

Yep. Have a look at the Drumeo youtube channel. That's pretty good.

Work on building a steady rhythm first, nice and simple. Leave the fancy stuff for when you nail a 4/4 and can keep it in time. Use the metronome on the kit (assuming it has one)

Always remember, Fills for show, grooves for the dough!

Songs like "Another One Bites The Dust" by Queen are very good to start learning to play along with. A nice steady rhythm, nothing too fancy. Bass drum on 1 & 3 and snare on 2 & 4. Solid!

Was a delay in getting my kit. Got one sorted now. Thanks for the advice! Had a look on Drumeo for a few beginner lessons and I'm on my way. Thanks again
Enjoy! It's a lot of fun. I'm now watching my 13 year old son pick up the sticks, he's progressing very well. Won't have a lesson from me and is self teaching, playing along to classic rock songs. Have to say, early signs are he could be VERY good! Hope he keeps it up!
