Anna Turley

Turley showed herself to be one of the better MP’s over Brexit. Most MP’s were spectacularly uninformed on 23/6/16 and an awful lot were still poor even by Nov 2019. Every single Brexit MP and MEP falls in to that bracket but so did quite a lot of remain or non commital ones. Not Turley. She was pretty much up to speed by late 2017 and what’s more she stuck to her guns for what was right despite knowing the personal political cost it was likely to have for her.

Imagine that, an MP who put country before herself.

The tories won with a 3500 majority and an 18% swing, surely that wasn’t all down to Brexit? Backlash from the steelworks? I don’t know Anna although feels risky to me, be like bringing Karanka back for a second spell.
The pub I go in nearly everyone voted against her as she wasn't following the peoples will regarding Brexit. TBH I will probably go to the selection meeting but not sure how I will vote. Its a gamble bring in Anna back and we need Jacob Young out. Not sure who else is putting their names forward yet.

I was speaking with a mate a few weeks ago. He voted against Turley and he said she would be stupid not to stand and if she could not get in now would never get in anywhere.

Shame she put herself first in 2016 when she resigned for shadow cabinet, and called Jeremy corbyn out of touch with reality

This despite membership rising under corbyn and had already been given a mandate.

for me the infighting that continued up until the 2017 election cost this country. If Labour had produced a majority or a hung parliament where the my could have formed a government then I believe this country would be so much different.

We’d have had a softer brexit
Less people would have died from covid
Alrhough poverty would exist it wouldn’t be as extensive

So I can’t get on board with she puts the country first, on time she didn’t put country before herself ended up being catastrophic for this country

And it could be argued that she didn’t put her country first, the country voted for brexit. Her stance on brexit enabled the conservatives to sweep away with a massive majority in 2019, and the wealth gap has grown massively in that time

Wow, what a thread to wake up to. Exiled throwing around IQ criticism and telling other posters to use their brains is quite the thing. I'm sure this kind of behaviour contributed to voters abandoning Corbyn and Labour in 2019.

Maybe now the Brexit mirage has evaporated common sense and decency will prevail.

Surely?
Many on this forum are now distancing themselves from Brexit, but the truth is there was an overwhelming majority in this area who voted YES to leave the EU, with immigration the main issue by far. I also remember Anna Turley getting regular pelters, whilst she was MP for Redcar and Cleveland.

Gord, you literally posted all Tory voters are scum and when Erimus mentioned he voted Tory you didn’t reply and say not you mate, which would of been the ‘decent’ thing to do

And as I said you’re all piling on 🤔
You didn’t like being called scum either then eh?

'Labour.. or else' - it didn't work last time round.
Indeed, and that's why you ended up with the Tories, and may do again once all the quiet Tories scuttle back to the ship as always

I'm sorry, but this is rewriting history, Corbyn was way behind in the polls and literally no one expected him to get as close as he did. That's why may called the election in the first place. Labour benefited from an ambiguous policy on Brexit and a muscular social democratic offer that people were ready for, especially the young. In addition, a lot of people - like the plumber who fitted my boiler on the day of the election who later told me our chat had persuaded him to switch his vote - voted Corbyn because they assumed he wouldn't win. What The Lodger concluded, and what Anna Turley clearly concluded, was that people would never vote to put Corbyn in Downing St. I concluded this right from the start, which is why I never voted for him in leadership elections.

This you may be right about, and I stand guilty on that score too as I marched for a second referendum. Looking back, people wanted to punish what they fairly felt was a broken promise on behalf of the political class. My own position was that polls had consistently showed a small majority against Brexit and therefore it was fair to ratify the original decision. But the country had issued its instruction and that was that. ;Get Brexit Done' won the day. Now, however, we're in much different territory: everyone knows Brexit has been a disaster and we need to get the Tories out above all. If you don't sign up to that injunction it's up to you, but whoever is elected Labour candidate for your seat, I urge you to let bygones be bygones and get the Tory out.

Complete misrepresentation there, Erimus and I got on very, very well. This has already been proven.

You're talking a load of crap, trying to stir things up on the board; what is your purpose? You're a messed up fella given that you get kicks stirring things up like a child.

Everybody can see through you, everybody knows you're yet another username for a frequently banned idiot, perhaps you ought to seek some sort of help? It's very unnatural behaviour.

I haven’t said anything untoward on here and yet it’s you again who goes in and comes out with all that

Wow

Look in the mirror
Accusing people of having low IQs, not being as clever as you, saying Erimus is no longer on this board because of me, saying I hate the people of Teesside etc. Yep, you're a beacon of light.

You again entered a thread to attack. You haven’t contributed a single point. That’s what you do and we’ve gone over this before so it’s pointless as you just turn nasty
Absolute tosh, we all know who the nasty and twisted person on here is and it isn't me. Get some help, you genuinely need it.
