I did know as I get a regular newsletter from the I/B Memorial Trust. The Clacton shirt sold out within a few days, there could be a second batch out now.

The Golden Smog Pub in Stockton I believe sponsor a local basket ball team that also play in a Spanish Republican Kit. I need to visit the pub and have a bottle of Brigista Ale brewed in the North East and see the new memorial to the I/Bers from Teesside that fought and in many cases died in Spain.

A few Aussies fought in Spain too.

I've just looked at The Golden Smog basketball kit via their FB page, very good. We have friends here who are Spanish and their Mum and Dad love the Clapton kit. Their family (like many others) suffered under Franco.
My cousin said the vibe at Clapton was excellent, he enjoyed going there. Kit supplier is Rage Sports, who are an anti-fascist manufacturer from Italy I believe.
 
Some anti fascists Italians fought for the Republic in Spain in the Garibaldi Division, but the vast majority of Italians were sent by Mussolini to fight with the Nationalists (Franco's lot). Even though Italy had signed a non intervention agreement. Most of the bombings of Spanish civilians were by the Italian air force.

One thing we need to keep in our minds when reading Orwell or is it Blair, is that it they are written after an awful war, the depression just coming to an end and poverty was almost the norm. The labour party although not in its infancy was still quite new. People came back having seen things you and I cannot comprehend.

He was right about yes meaning no and visa versa, it's happening today.
