Andy McDonald suspended over rally comments

Who associates it with getting rid of the state of Israel?

Even allowing for the fact that Hamas have used it in that manner, for the vast majority of both the people using it and it's existence as a slogan, it hasn't meant that.

Dictating a new meaning for words is Orwellian.
I think you've answered the question, the organisation who has just murdered thousands of Israeli's uses it in that context. I accept that MacDonald is antisemitic and the speech isn't, but he could have said what he said without using that phrase, but then that wouldn't have been so controversial would it.

At the end of the day, there is right and wrong on both sides, by attending and speaking at a pro Palestine rally MacDonald is taking a side imho.

Absolutely, he made no secret of which side he was on; the side of peace for all in that area of the world.
He might see it that way, obviously Israel don't and there in lies the problem. Eventually they all will have to live together.

I can see the tories hoping people posting on here and making snap decisions gets replicated around the country driving wedges through the electorate. If we get another tory government on the back of it, i hope you’ll be all proud to have inadvertently played your part. Words have consequences, he has a temporary suspension whilst an investigation takes place, one in which he is happy to assist, some on here should await the outcome before they judge the process.

Why is a Middlesbrough MP speaking at a pro Palestinian rally?

There are plenty of other world ranked politicians involved in the complete mess which is Israel and the Gaza Strip including our very own Rishi Sunak.

Hasn‘t he got better things to do on behalf of the impoverished areas of Teesside?

If he has embarrassed (deliberately or otherwise) the current Labour leadership then what does he expect?

This is my issue, barely a peep from him about anything for years unless it's a minor local planning application and then all sudden he got himself into a frenzy over a conflict 3000 miles away which were not involved in. Bizarre behaviour.

If we get another Tory government it's the fault of the people who voted Tory.

If we get another Tory government it's the fault of the people who voted Tory.
And those that decide against voting Labour because of Starmer and situations like this and thus vote elsewhere or don’t vote or spoil their ballot paper too. EVERY VOTE MATTERS. I appreciate that may mean some holding their noses, as I did in 2019 and 2017, Some people seem determined to wrestle the party back further to the left and thus remain in opposition, at every opportunity, if the mood on here today from some were reflected around the country at a general election, god help us.

Netanyahu is a war criminal and those who stand by him are complicit in Genocide.

I agree with the last paragraph roofie - Netanyahu is a far right nutcase, to me since the time he appeared that thought was never in doubt.

Saying that, this far left board baffles me ? We get far right posters on here or used to, and we still get the occasional visit from them.
However some former posters would rather hang out on an ultra far right board with some awful far right hate speech going on. This bewilders me and leaves me with no other conclusion.

Well Roofie these Torah Jews or Orthodox Jews you have posted, don't believe Israel should exist as the messiah hasnt arrived yet !. They took no part in the formation of Israel.
However some do like to live in Israel, but they wont do national service etc.

I've done a little reading over the internet years, and like others have seen a few documentaries about Palestine, but I wont profess to be an expert in any shape or form.
I'm no longer have any form of religion in my life, despite it being all around me, I no longer believe in organised religions.
So I wont begin say I know lots about the Jewish denominations, as frankly I not interested in their faith.
Nor am I interested in Islam and its different forms, I feel the same about all these religions.

Unlike the board posters on here I don't have the courage of conviction regarding Palestine, so I don't ever go on marches and protest like you all.
But I do get distressed seeing homes obliterated, children orphaned, maimed or murdered, every time I see a news report about this area. It feels and seems I've been doing this since late childhood until now.

As for Palestinian Arab Muslims and Israel - they have been killing each other and doing unspeakable things to each others children and females for as long as I can remember.
Will either of them ever stop? - I think not.
We will be seeing and hearing about the same murdering taking place through armed conflict by the same two groups long after both you and I are gone from sight .

Will Israel have a ceasefire after what has happened? Did Hamas/Iran expect that no retaliation would occur, and did they consider what might happen to the innocents during the act of Israeli revenge ?
What did you think would happen?
As soon as I heard that Hamas had done what they had done, I knew exactly what would happen.
We all feel sick to the stomach when we see killing of children, women and old and ill people, but it was certain Israel would seek revenge and that Hamas didnt give two.

As for Mr McDonald, he is entitled to his views and who he supports, he has always seemed a fair man to me and you don't get better than a fair man imho. It seems if this board is indicator of the politics in this country atm, Momentum-Corbynistas ultra left/ and the ultra right Tories we will end up with another 5 years of Tory governance.
I was hoping Mr McDonald would pester and force a Labour Govt into bringing some new enterprise to Middlesbrough and Teesside a bit like Prescott did for Humberside. Ah well.

Didn't he also flag up the local "industrial-scale corruption"? Admittedly not as efficiently as PRIVATE EYE but it doesn't get much bigger nor Local than that.

Barely a peep being reported in the rags doesn't mean he isn't doing anything, it's those relying on being spoon fed by the gutter media, nationally and locally, the promotion of Houchen, the lack of reporting on work done by Cunningham and McDonald, who are always up front with these accusations.

The key word there is viable. With putsches like this how is the Labour Party viable to anyone of the left?
That's what those have of the left have to wrestle with, in our system if you don't vote for the candidate who has the best chance of beating the Tory candidate you are accepting more Tory imho

And yet, a quick Google would have shown you that, just last month he asked a question about the impact that closing Middlesbrough railway station’s ticket office would have on his constituents; asked a question at PMQs about a new building for Outwood Academy; and asked the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions about how regional disparities in wages affect his constituents. Of course, the local media won’t have reported any of that, because he wasn’t eating a lemontop or asking for protected status for the parmo.
