Andy McDonald suspended over rally comments

labour have gone from being nailed on to win a massive majority to now scrabbling about to stay relevant…
I fully believe they’re in a no win situation as they want to win votes of those who couldn’t give a fluck about Palestinians but risk losing the respect of those who think Labour should be a voice of the people…

It's a really bizarre choice of phrase to use at a pro-Palestine rally.

On the face of it, the overall message is a positive one, but why would he include a phrase that's often had genocidal intent attached to it?

Even if it's an attempt to try and "reclaim" the phrase for peace on both sides, it's just needlessly controversial.

I don't really agree with him being suspended over it though.

He was unwise to use that phrase, even though he specifically gave it a different meaning.
It's about time someone did. That phrase originated in the 1940's as a response to the Nakba and was a call for freedom for Palestinians. It is a geographical description of a strip of land and just because Zionist settlers have since framed it as a call to wipe Israel off the map does not make it so and McDonald pointedly used that language as a plea for peace for everyone on that strip of land.

Let's not have inoffensive language prosribed by a political organisation for its own benefit.
