Feels good doesn't it. UTB.The only north east club to win a cup in the last 50 years. And we didn’t need to buy it either

That Boro cup final team cost about 28m….Newcastle had a sub today who cost more than two times as much as our whole team. Even taking inflation into account Newcastle are at a different level financiallyErm, Gibbo was one of the forerunners of bankrolling a club...
The 2nd Jack Walker type chairman in fact...
We'll forever be grateful to him...
None of any of it without his finance....
Only the influx of billionaires stopped us....
It's all relative though. We were probably closer to the top of the league (in terms of spending) than they are now. We also had a fairly cheap squad if you judge it on fees but we must have had massive wages. Mendieta, Zenden, Mills cost nothing. Juninho We also had about £15 on the bench in the form of Riggott, Maccarone and Ricketts. That Boro cup final team cost about 28m….Newcastle had a sub today who cost more than two times as much as our whole team. IIRC our budget was about 12th highest, we had a fairly small squad bulked up with cheap and low paid kids. Newcastle must be about 6th highestIt's all relative though. We were big spenders back then.
Didn't we break the British transfer record buying Rav, then they bought Shearer! Had forgotten about Sir John Hall, forgive me!Newcastle were spending a lot more than us, he certainly wasn't the 2nd Jack Walker
A bit harsh on riggott and maccarone that like.We also had about £15 on the bench in the form of Riggott, Maccarone and Ricketts.
I think it was one of the bigger transfers, but not the record. There's already been the likes of Bergkamp, Collymore and probably a couple of others that were £8m and overDidn't we break the British transfer record buying Rav, then they bought Shearer! No. It was a big transfer but only about the 4th or 5th biggest at the time. Our total squad cost was way down the list too, as we had a squad packed with cheaper layers tooDidn't we break the British transfer record buying Rav, then they bought Shearer! Shearer cost nearly as much as Juninho, Ravanelli and Emerson combined

Yeah but the Trophy Dodgers (both varieties) won't be winning anything before May 2023 will they?I thought that Sunderland won the FA Cup in May 1973.
