All we can take from last nights game..

Is we’re not a team that’s capable of staying up if we get promoted … but that wouldn’t be the team if we did…

I can’t see from that game if we’re good enough to get promoted in the first place though but that’s what the league is for..,

All I’m bothered about now is the Sunderland game. We’ve got a good rest and the disappointment will have faded

Not sure why we need to be looking at what player displayed the worst, it’s a game we need to forget about and move on, it was a one off…

UTB…

You say that, but we did beat them in the first game remember.

Last night was a tough watch but sometimes its just a bad day at the office, we're much better than we showed last night.

I think we already knew before last night that as the squad stands it is not good enough to stay up if we somehow got promoted. Like many promoted teams at least half the first 11 would need upgrading.

I think our style of play is far better suited to the higher division than the three promoted teams of last season. With adroit strengthening we could thrive. Getting promoted is the issue, obviously.

Im not sure the squad is currently good enough to get us promoted anyway - we will see but 9th is about our level IMHO

I can't believe anyone would think that we were capable of competing in the PL. We're mid-table in the championship. We have taken 1 point off Rotherham this season. That is the sort of conversation you have when promotion is looking like a probability not a slim possibility.

I honestly feel if it wasn't for this injury crisis, we'd be challenging top 2. I've never known us have so many injuries at once, all key players/leaders too.
Not a chance. We're miles away. We don't have a striker capable of scoring us the goals, we don't have defenders capable of keeping clean sheets. Without the injuries we'd be about where West Brom are. We're nowhere near automatic contenders. Who's missing that would have improved us by 20 points?

We've got a decent squad but we have very few standout players. The players missing are marginally better than the ones that have been playing.

We are capable of making the playoffs but we don't have a great squad. Luckily, in the middle of the championship, nobody does so we're capable of being 3 points better than the surrounding teams but there is not a cat in hells chance that we're good enough for the autos with this group of players.

Shows the gulf in class doesn’t it? Leicester were absolutely awful last year and were rightfully relegated, and they’re strolling the league. In fact, all three sides who came down are a step ahead really.

Whereas the three sides who went up, including Burnley who strolled the league, are getting walloped every week.

I understand and respect your points mate, but we're not "miles away", not at all. We've proved we can mix it with team right at the top. We've beat teams like Leicester and Southampton.

You also dont "need" a 20+ goal striker to get promoted. We didn't last time.

There's plenty of players who have proved they can chip in with goals:

Latte Lath
Rogers
Coburn
Mcgree
Jones
Crooks
Forss
Hackney

There's a lot of goals in that group of players over the course of a season.

Barlaser has settled in and has been playing some great football lately. We signed o'brien who was the best midfielder in the league 2 seasons ago.

Lenihan and Smith are massive misses at the back.

I honestly do think we'd be in the playoff places (easily) - and having a go at top 2 if it wasn't for such rotten luck.

Leicester was a one-off game. Anyone can beat anyone on any given day. Rotherham don't think they should be playoff contenders because they've taken 4 points off us. Southampton were doing dreadfully when we played them. We were their 4th defeat in a row and people were worried for Russel Martin's job. That's the last time they lost. We played them at a very good time.

I didn't say we need a 20 goal striker. I said we're 20 points off 2nd. We have failed to win matches because we don't score enough goals and we concede too many. A big chunk of our points dropped came earlier in the season when we had no injury problems and we had a full squad to choose from.

We are a playoff contender calibre team. We are not an automatic contender with this group of players.

I commented last night that we should probably forget about going up for now and continue to build with Carrick and look ahead a couple of seasons maybe before we go up. It would be no fun getting battered every week and coming back down.

Although the money that comes with it would be good, to help us build further.

It's not really the void between Champo and Premier though its the top half of the Premier and the rest.(Chelsea are better than their current league position)
We will never be in the Champions League, and have never been, but a slow process of building and moving forward, yeh we could hold our own if we got promoted

If we did go up though we wouldn't have the same team. I'd like to of seen a full strength Boro side against Chelsea, I think we'd give them a run for their money.

I mean no team that goes up is capable of staying up... that's why you buy better players in the summer to improve the team.

If we got promoted this season there is no way the likes of Howson, Glover, Crooks etc would be starting games in the PL. They would be replaced.

That's definitely true. The Leicester team that is currently on course for the best ever finish in this league was relegated last season and then sold their best players.
