Aidan Morris....

Morris is exactly what we needed.
I still love Howson and am so glad we retained him.

But Morris can be part of a future beyond May and its good that he plays with Hackney now, growing into the English game.
He has discipline, energy, commitment and enough technique to take the ball comfortably and make simple passes to players who are much more skilled at creating.
He is a disruptor, he can tackle and is an absolute team player.

He's not the disruptor or tackler that Boateng was - he did it a the top level all his career.
But he might be able to pass better than George. Neither can/could shoot.
I don't think he'll ever be as good as Boateng and certainly not Ince.

He's not yet a Mustoe either as again, Mustoe performed at the top level for much of his career and Morris is 9 games into the Championship. Mustoe did score a few goals too. I think Morris could be a better player in time than Mustoe, but has a way to go.

Clayton was more defensive. I think the comparison is much more even here. Clayton won the ball, stopped the opposition playing, covered colleagues. I hope Morris can do that as well as him and indications are looking good. And much as I loved Clayton, Morris must be at least as creative as Adam, with a better shot.

With the greatest of respect to Robbie Mustoe, I think Morris looks a far better player. His calmness in possession and ability to always play forwards in superb. A proper, proper superb piece of business that the club should rightly be very proud of.
Respectfully disagree.

Mustoe read the game better and was all over the pitch in a different CM role (mostly played in a genuine 4 or 3 MF). Mustoe never panicked, did the dirty work, and anchored the MF for years. Massively under rated footballer.

Taking nothing away from Morris, agree been a superb signing, but saying better than Mustoe after 10 games ......let's not get carried away.

He's a strong lad, seemed to have missed this since Clayton.

You just know he's coming out on top of every 50/50 he goes in to.

Great on the ball too. What a gem so far.

Yeah that's a fair point and maybe I worded my post incorrectly. Maybe it is more accurate to say that from what I've seen of Morris it looks to me like he might have a higher ceiling that Mustoe. That's not to take anything from Mustoe, he was outstanding over a prolonged period of time, but I think Morris is probably better technically that we have seen so far

Kieran scott and his team top signing yet again.
I was a little disappointed when we signed him, I had no doubt he could become a top player for us but thought it would take half a season at least for him to get used to the intensity etc and I thought/ believe we could go up this year so wanted players in who were ready to go. Glad to say I'm very wrong and AM is a great player, he will just get better as he adepts and learns, he is turning out to be a top signing.

Every Aidan Morris thread leads me to my pre-season description of ‘Sherman Tank’
When he got clobbered last night, there was no drama Queen shenanigans, just up, and got on with it, like a true centurion.

Aidan Morris was recommended to Boro by a Redcar lad, Callum Morris, no relation, who works for Columbus Crew in their junior and scouting departments, he was at the Boro Academy as a youngster and played for Marske United before moving to play college football in the States and settling over there.

Not taking anything away from Scott and co but having this recommendation and the head start that it gave us has certainly played a part in getting him to the Boro, sometimes it's just having someone in the right place at the right time.

This kind of thing probably happens a lot, recommendations from contacts all over the world. The difficult part of the job is identifying which of these recommendations can actually cut it at the top end of the championship.

Wow, I had no idea about that - really does go to show how wide and varied our scouting network is

The best thing about Morris is he makes a crucial interception/block/tackle and when the cameras pan in on him... He absolutely loves it.

No interest in scoring or joining the attack - he knows his job and does is very well. Reminds me of a prime-Clayton.
Took a few games to get going but now he's settled, I think he's a much better footballer than Clayton. I think there's a good chance Morris plays at a higher level. Morris was my MOTM last night. There's one or two things he can sharpen up on but that partnership with Hackney is going to be something special.

Spot on Humpty. I said it since day one the ceiling for Morris is extremely high. Also agree, levels above Clayton.

I hope he ends up as good but don’t forget; Mustoe did it at the top and competed against some of the best midfielders the Prem has seen.

Yes, I fully agree. I have reworded what I said here a bit later in the thread as I probably didn't word it correctly. I feel Morris has a far higher ceiling that Mustoe reached, and is probably a better player that we have seen so far
