I too thought Engel did well so a bit surprised to see him get a bit of flack in the Gazette yesterday:

"While left-back Lukas Engel was by no means poor in the game, he didn't have half as much impact as he should have, with the space that opened up for him at times down the left flank. Never looking overly comfortable in possession throughout his 12 months on Teesside to date, the role in Carrick's preferred setup requires positive attacking play and meaningful contributions in possession. Engel is a steady option but if Boro are to challenge for promotion as hoped this term, all signs point towards an upgrade being needed."

Maybe something in the offing?

Lukas does need to accept that male pattern baldness is happening though and do the decent thing and shave it off.

Is that from a reporter? Defo harsh, Engel had a good game, particularly going forwards.

Hair transplant bonus on promotion?

I've told the lass who cuts my hair she needs to tell me when it's time to let it go. Might have a couple more years in me yet though 🤞

He has his strengths and weaknesses which have been done to death, but I still think he’s one of the best crossers of a ball I have seen at left back for us.
agreed, Downing-esque. Put a superb ball in for Hull from left wing on saturday. Goal on a plate......but it was headed straight at the keeper who saved it

I don’t think any championship full back is worth £4m

Something like 2 assists in the 2nd half of the season with us.. I think he is over rated by many.
I think you have to judge his performances a little deeper than that stat; teams identified him as a dangerous player and set up accordingly more as the season went on.

I dont think his levels noticably dipped after Xmas, he was still a threat and the more teams concentrated on him the more spaces opened up elsewhere.

He was excellent for us, no doubt about it and it's no surprise to me that were pushing to bring him back.

Hull have paid over his market value for him, they know it and we know it and they know they realistically aren't going to break even on him, or even close to it.

Giles got more assists when he played with mcgree in front than Ramsay.

absolutely agree on this. They played him left wing apparently on saturday in what looks a pretty poor line up.

Mogga played him as a wife forward at Blackburn I think, both left and right and it didn't really work out.

I think he played as a wing back at Cardiff, so we were the first club that played him in his natural position.

It's pretty obvious Hull as desperate to get rid and recoup to cash and save on wages/add ons.

Not ar*ed either way if Giles returns tbh.

Engel is a decent Championship LB, no massive concerns over him. Prone to doing great things, then awful lapses in concentration within 5 mins. He definitely needs the LM helping him out though. Jones does this really well on the right.....McGree not so much on the left.

Deffo the type of fella that will not go bald gracefully and will have a comb over.

Is it not based on the length of time you have the ball?
No, I don’t think k it is, too difficult to accurately judge that. I
Mean is someone really going to sit with a stopwatch and stop and start when a team plays a long pass so technically no one has possession of the ball?
