Aidan Morris

I actually assumed he would play second fiddle to the Hackney/ Howson partnership at least for the first few weeks - and would be down to him to break into it.

Very glad to see him being thrown in the deep end and him basically walking on water 🙌
I think he would have been if Howson hadn’t picked up the knock against Heerenveen. Took his chance though. Brilliant player.

Quite Clayton-esque with better passing and flair :ROFLMAO:.
Clayton did a good job in that side but would be too limited for this one I think.

Feels a bit bad on Morris comparing him to Clayton mind, as I don't remember Clayton ever getting reviews this positive, and certainly not after a couple of games.

That's not to have a dig at Clayton either mind, in that defensive side as just a ball winner he was good for that role, and crucial, but the thing is when we signed him he wasn't really playing in that position and was a lot more forward thinking. Not sure whether we didn't get enough out of him going forward (1 goal in 213 games) or the others were doing something we were not in a good or bad way.

Just watched the replay of the first goal. All the players surround Dijksteel and Morris’s reaction is just repeating “let’s go” over and over. He couldn’t be more American
I seen Morris saying that ; Lets go Lets go....I assumed he was basically, Happy firstly...and Lets go is an American thing...but also he looked serious...so I thought he was also stating ; Lets go....folks...this isn't over...Lets go get more...!

I think Morris has been good. But I don't think he's been Clayton good yet. Clayton was outstanding in the first 2 AK seasons. I don't think how many goals he scored is relevant as that wasn't his job.
Morris looks more mobile than clayton though - and Mustoe and Boateng. He looks like he can take the ball on the half turn and smoke his cigar, then decide where the pass is going.
He looks very comfortable and full of belief...
Mustoe and Boateng were both limited with their movement at times but great at breaking up play. Clayton had better movement and was also great at breaking up play.

Morris looks cleaner though. clean in how he nicks the ball - great balance and super comfortable on the ball. Ala Roy Keane esque.....

I know i'm getting excited - but hey, why not. ;) 🤷‍♂️

Really?

Boat covered every blade of grass and Mustoe was actually an attacking box-to-box midfielder when he signed from Oxford
Mustoe and Boateng were both limited by their passing range (2 of my favorite players by the way) but we're very athletic. Clayton had little pace/mobility but read the game well from a defensive point of view.

Morris looks like he's got the lot. He looks like an exceptional version of Sam Morsey (who's not got the lot).

I watch a lot of American sport, they use “let’s go” a lot. It’s their equivalent to “f***ing get in!”

A word of caution, as good as Morris has been, he is fully match fit, well ahead of most other players in the league. The rest will catch up to him in another 3 or 4 games so let's see how he compares then. Plus he is likely to drop off anyway, his season began in February. Play him now, rest him in a few weeks to avoid fatigue injuries.

I don't think boateng would get in the current team. Which isn't to say he wasn't a better player than every single player in our team. He wouldn't be able to play out under a high press.
I think he could. He was great at protecting the ball and playing a simple ball.
He might not be the player who's playing the penetrative passes but he would be fine at receiving the ball under pressure and keeping it.

Morris got a long way to go before he can be considered anywhere near the level of Boateng. Clayton is a better comparison for now and he struggled at PL level. Boateng did it for years in the PL and in Europe.

Morris is definitely more athletic than Clayton so he's got more scope but Clayton was very solid for us for a couple of seasons. If we get as much out of Morris then I'll be very happy.

Boateng is my favourite Boro player and was playing at a level for a top 4 club when at his best.

Comparatively Morris can be, I believe will be as good in this league. I don't think we'd had a CM as athletic since George however, though the comments re him being ahead of everyone else are interesting, worth keeping in mind, I still believe he will control the midfield for us many times this season

Boateng is vastly under rated. His defensive midfielder stats were amongst the best in the league for several years

clayton good? is that the standard where you prove yourself to be quite immobile and not very good as a footballer, but you tenacity, workrate and fighting spirit make up for it?

george boateng is on a different level to any midfielder we have had since he left. de roon couldnt lace his boots but hes been the best one since. morris looks promising, but a way to go before he gets that sort of liking imo.

i rewatched the euro semi final, full match the other week, boateng and rochemback are far above anything we currently have. interestingly though i think our current fullbacks are better than parnaby and taylor who played that night.

for now maybe like morris to gary hamilton
