Africa is big

It's a huge place but, even having lived there, the map showing its size in relation to other countries surprised me.

I was lucky enough to see plenty of it during my time in the navy.

I've been down the West Coast to Dakar (Senegal) / Freetown (Sierra Leon) / Abidjan (Ivory Coast). Although I must give Legos (Nigeria) a shout out as one of the worst places I've been🙄.

I visited Tunisia and Egypt whilst transiting the Suez (although Cario was a 4 day jolly off the ship to see the pyramids). I have to say very underwhelming. Just people hassling you for sh*t ornaments and camel rides whilst dodging flying crisp packets and other rubbish.

Also visited Cape Town and Simons Town in South Africa. Good Times👏

The USA comes out of this looking very big, too. My neighbours cycled from London to Cape Town a couple of years ago. They should have looked at this first.
The USA is big! Again another problem with the Mercator projection that we use to render 2d maps: Canada looks much much bigger than the US. Bit, because the top bits are so stretched it is bigger but only slightly.
