Abramovich

Abramovich clearly knew the writing was on the wall, hence the attempted quick sale of the club and “I won’t take a penny from the sale” etc…. I gave him the benefit of the doubt at the time but he’s just a self serving Cnut
not only that, but I see it as an admittance that there was plenty of dirt about his continued support and intertwined relationship with Putin.

Shame they don't take the same stance with the Saudi mega rich and put sanctions on them.

What's been happening in Yemen for the last 8 or so years is equally as horrific as what's happening in Ukraine. The difference being that the British, US and other governments, support the Saudis, and the media aren't interested.

It also completely devalues everything Chelsea have won over the last 20 years. If not actually stripped of titles then there will always be a massive asterisk next to everything they have won, Chelsea fans can't sing their champions of Europe nonsense.

Think on Newcastle & City fans.
paid for in blood money....they should be stripped of titles. Warning to Newcastle.

Awwwww.
Fill the entire end with our own fans.
Stuff Chelski(n)
the club needs to be careful about Chelsea fans in the home end, it's a real danger with their inability to sell tickets coupled with Chelsea fans feeling unfairly punished.

I hate Chelsea as much as the next man but I don't see how their last 20 years will be tarnished in any way. The source of the money has always been known about. Nothing has changed in that respect. They have operated within the financial regulations, for the majority of the time at least. They haven't cheated, spent beyond their means etc. It's different to the Derby situation where they have outright cheated by being outside of the rules.

The source of the money and the links to Putin are obviously ill-gotten and I am very glad to see that the sanctions will put a stop to any dealings going forward but the footballing achievements are different to the political links of their owner. If everyone was happy (Chelsea fans, the FA, UEFA, FIFA and all other fans) with how Chelsea were funded pre-the Ukraine conflict then there's no real avenue for stripping them of their achievements.

Hopefully we can just be happy that they are far less likely to continue having any success and we can get on with some other reprehensible owners winning a load of trophies instead.

Over the moon for Chelsea fans.
Pity it didn't go further.
I just hope they don't take advantage of the 'everybody hates us' siege mentality that the like of fergie used to draw on.

They probably won't have titles taken from them but I think it ruins their 'legacy'.

It's akin to saying yes we won loads but it was paid for with blood money so I cant's see their fans boasting about this period.

Obviously the likes of the scum that sang abromivich's name during the Ukraine applause will but their views count for nothing.
I don't think the Ukrainian war and subsequent sanctions has anything to do with previous seasons or with blood money going to Chelsea.
It will still be fun to watch them sink back to being a 'normal' club if that is the outcome. Unless the Saudis think they are a better bet than Newcastle and jump ship.

A complete ban on transfers suggests that these sanctions are not just a temporary addition.
To me it sounds like this will run past the summer and even result in points deductions of some sort.

Just as the club was used to raised the profile of Roman Abramovich and provide him with some protection.. it seems as if our government may use the club to show the public they are being active in their anti war stance.. when in fact they are doing b***r all.

Devalue the asset, make it available for buttons to some tory peer. It couldn't happen to a nicer club!

I feel sorry for the players whose reputations will be tarnished as a result of their involvement with the club.

Sponsors are starting to get twitchy.. it wouldn't surprise me if we saw a very different outfit show up at the riverside!

So. In effect Chelsea can still play because the Government deem them to be

"A cultural significant asset"

Ha! I bet the majority of their fans would love to think they are supporting a British cultural treasure as they chant a despot's mate's name during a minute's applause for the dying and injured children in Ukraine

Shame they don't take the same stance with the Saudi mega rich and put sanctions on them.

Was talking to a Geordie mate of mine earlier and we were both saying, all it takes is a shift in politics and that's them and City up ****'s creek.

I think he put it quite nicely when he said 'many view the oil money as a pinnacle, however ultimately it's really a sign of failure.' Basically failure that the club need to rely on such money to have a chance at success.

I'm not an expert In FFP, but from previous threads on here some members are much more knowledgeable on it. So how will this effect Chelsea on FFP? as my limited understanding is that part of FFP is that a owner can contribute X amount towards FFP. How will this work say at the end of the season with the prospect of limited income for the foreseeable future?
Too hard to say at this moment, the details of the limits on chelsea sound a little 'fluid' right now. Of course FFP for prem is very different to league.

I think that europe is the biggest worry for them immediately, as european qualification would be validated/invalidated within a couple of months.
