Aberfan

I remember it vividly. I couldn't understand why my Mam was crying while she watched the TV.
I asked her why and she said there had been a big accident. I couldn't really understand the pictures they showed on tv but knew something dreadful had happened. Our neighbours had come round and they were crying too.
We had fundraising things going on through school and our local church .
We all joined in . To be honest I don't think I realised just how bad it had been until I was a couple of years older and the media did an anniversary programme on tv.

I watched in unfold on the tele and I was living in a student house at the time. I was all for going down to help.

Then we realised it would take us so long to get there that any point would have been lost and we'd just be in the way of those who might have been able to help

A truly , truly awful experience

Very similar experience with our Mam, I'd never seen her cry before then.
