Aaron Ramsdale article - worth a read

What a guy Ramsdale is, such a fabulous article to read and a great example to us all. Very brave and open of him, I hope people respect him for such candour. Football, nay the country, is all the better for having people like Aaron Ramsdale in it, prepared to take a stand against the trolls of this world and their bile filled posts. I have a new found personal respect for him as a human being.

It just goes to show you, me, everyone, that you never know what is going on in someone else’s life at any given moment in time. We assume everyone we initially come across or meet is ok, the truth of the matter is most of the time they aren’t. Whether thats because they’ve had a row with their partner, missed a deadline at work and had a rollocking, missed the last bus, not eaten, have a health issue or frankly anything, we should not assume and should try to ‘read the room’ better where we can. I hope his open message helps others to think FU to people filled with hate and encourages more people from all walks of life to be true to themselves, their loved ones and show respect for anyone going about their lawful daily lives no matter how different to our own choices and preferences. Well done Aaron Ramsdale 👏👏👏

We don't know what the lad was going through though to make him lose control.

Ramsdale spent half the game picking the ball up & then falling over, catching the ball & falling over, changing sides for goal kicks, having a drink of water and then celebrated in front of the spurs fans.
If you revel in the role of pantomime villian then I don't think you can be surprised if someone else responds in similar fashion.

To me the kick was the same as the old dears that used to whack Giant Haystacks with their handbags and caused as much damage.
What a weird hill to die on.

Been meaning to read this since the start of the season. Great article and quite rare for footballers to put stuff like that together. Anyone whose been through anything like that regarding a pregnancy (like I and many, many others have) will know how hard it is both at the time and for months after. Love the sentiment he has towards his brother too.

Did he grow up as a Gooner then?

I can totally understand your point here, I vividly remember taking my five year old to see Cinderella at the Forum. I became so incensed by the windy-up, villainous behaviour of the ugly sisters, I was forced to respond in a similar fashion, and had to run on stage and hoof one of them in her boIIocks.

Harry Maguire is a case in point - you can question his selection for England on form or lack of, or the transfer fees that he didnt dictate, but the level of personal abuse he receives is beyond the pale. He had the incident on holiday a few years back (can't remember how that turned out) but on field he doesnt stand out to me as a character worthy of such bile and I think it says a fair bit about him that he carries himself so well outwardly, bit who knows to what cost internally? People hide behind the 'banter' word but it has ceased to mean what it originally did.

Good little interview with him on 5 Live after the match left night. Thought this post was going to be on that when I opened it this morning so pleased to see that article, very good read

The abuse Maguire gets is ridiculous. A lot of it from people who should know better.

Reminds me of the "banter" Jason Lee used to be on the receiving end of thanks to Baddiel and Skinner, albeit for very different reasons. Like Lee he's become a running joke and that is a very hard perception to shift.

I missed this thread when it was first posted and enjoyed reading it this morning and whilst reading it I thought about the stick Maguire got last night on the Scotland v England thread on this board. We've all been guilty at some point but really we should step back and put ourselves in their shoes and wonder how we would feel if it was us or someone we love.
