What a tremendous article by Aaron Ramsdale - really thought provoking and very moving. I didn't know much about him previously but what an eloquent (if rather long) and intelligent person he comes across as.

So much writing on football is just filler, we don't get any insight - this is quite different.

Good read, thanks for posting it.

He came across really well on the Amazon documentary and his dad truly is a character.

The older I get the more ridiculous it seems that sports personalities, singers, etc. are just expected to take abuse and criticism immediately from the age of 18+.

That is an absolutely fantastic article.

As someone who also suffered from the pain of losing a child, I know exactly what he means when he says he had to keep playing football.

Obviously the thug who kicked him had no idea what he was going through, but that's the point isn't it - everyone, no matter who they are or what they do for a living could be going through a terrible period in their life.

It's an amazing read.

Very good read and like juninhoburger I've also had the heartache of losing a child. People think these footballers aren't ordinary people, yes they are stars who get paid very highly however, they still go through things that normal folk go through like losing a child.
Well done Aaron Ramsdale for this letter as it cant of been easy.

Don't be a timewasting **** goading fans then.
Every goalkeeper in the world including Boro's wastes time, as he says in his article he jokes with the fans and has been doing it since the early days of his career. Why should he have to stand there and take all the abuse every day. If the fans don't like his goading or jokes then don't abuse him, it's all banter at the end of the day.

That's not his fault, that's the officials. The officials are the ones that need to control the timewasting...players do it because they know they can...all teams (including our own) do it.

But if that's you justifying a supporter entering the field and kicking a footballer in the back, then I think it says a lot about you.

That was a brilliant read. Always thought Ramsdale came across as a top man, and that article has confirmed everything.

Slightly off topic but thats the problem with the game in general though. Players trying to get away with anything they can; time wasting, diving, kicking the ball away. It's all down to the referee to manage but the players should play the game in a better spirit for me.

The abuse is shocking at times and these idiots entering the field should be dealt with by the police. To be honest the whole game needs cleaning up. The way players and managers also abuse officials is just as appalling as fans abusing players. Ramsdales manager is a perfect example of this.

We don't know what the lad was going through though to make him lose control.

Ramsdale spent half the game picking the ball up & then falling over, catching the ball & falling over, changing sides for goal kicks, having a drink of water and then celebrated in front of the spurs fans.
If you revel in the role of pantomime villian then I don't think you can be surprised if someone else responds in similar fashion.

To me the kick was the same as the old dears that used to whack Giant Haystacks with their handbags and caused as much damage.

If you can't watch a game of football without getting so wound up that you end up assaulting one of the players, you shouldn't be allowed back in the ground.
