A14 Litter

I was just posting something about litter picking on Teesside and I remembered about seeing horrendous litter at the weekend. Firstly where I was stopping in Birmingham but then along the verges of A14 - I have never seen so much along the verge of any road before, totally horrendous. It is a big lorry route isn't it, so I don't know if that is part of it but I also wonder whether there is ever any litter clearing carried out like we see with the Highways vans on A19 and A66. The debris was piled high above the verges for mile after mile after mile.

The increase in the volume of litter is always apparent when driving down south near major towns and cities.

It always makes me wonder if it's the sheer amount of traffic, or if people are just scruffier there.

There's a lane I walk my dog up and I'd love to spot Mr Kronenbourg one day: three or four cans, a few nights a week, just dumped in the hedges. What a cack life if that's something you have to do most days a week.

A14 turns into the M6 doesn't it? Perhaps it is something to do with leaving/entering the M6/M1 motorways (plus the volume of traffic)?

It was the section between M1 and A1 - and from that press piece I found above it is a very big problem. Am thinking the 21 lorry tyres received last year might well give a clue to major culprits. It is a major heavy vehicle run to container ports. Obviously the volume of litter is so great they have to close lanes to collect it all. Not popular of course. On A66 Middlesbrough a lane is closed very frequently on Sundays. Litter collection must cost a fortune.

Just lazy people. I went to Preston Park yesterday and the tell tale doggy bag sat less that 20 yards from a deposit box. You may as well kick the shoite in the hedge.

Bigger reasons to dislike Alan Moore these days, going off his Twitter feed.
Alan has battled terrible health problems - in constant pain - and so dependent on medication from football injuries. Suffers depression. Twice attempted suicide. Had real problems in life since retirement as a player.

I’m sorry to hear about the problems he’s had. And also sorry about the very questionable views on expressed on Twitter.

I just found this from a year ago about the same section of road. "More than 1500 bags of rubbish collected.." It took 10 days to complete and there were 21 lorry tyres also. What a problem!

From most train lines the country looks a filthy mess.

If we could devise a recycle scheme where each used drinking can was worth one penny [1d] - we would see people clearing up sites and lay-byes.

We could take a leaf out of Germany`s book:

The infinite recyclability of cans enables a closed material cycle and makes aluminium an ideal material for a circular economy in times of increasing disposal problems and littering of packaging waste. In Germany, 99% of all beverage cans are recycled. The return rate due to the deposit is higher than in any other country in the world.

It’s just becoming more and more like the States, travelling up the A3 last week and I commented it looks like New York and gets worse every year.

Just had a look and sad to see what you mean. Another naive/vulnerable/chump who has gone completely down the antivax rabbit hole.
I remember him fondly as a player though. The cracker he scored against Sunderland at Ayresome is one of my all time favourite Boro goals.

The worst litter area down my way is within 1 or 2 miles of the McDonald's and KFC at a business park.

It's like a litter 'blast zone'. Just a 1-2 mile area of increased fast food rubbish thrown at the side of the road. Clearly people go through the drive through and eat in the car. Then launch out the window😔

I read somewhere that they were thinking about putting car registrations on drive through bags. Great idea. Although still not enforceable and nothing could come of it.

I was down in Coventry with my daughter for a uni open day at the weekend and we both noticed the volume of trash on the verges of the motorways round there. Depressing AF!
